“After fifty years, this Honda CB500 K0 gauge set was definitely due for a proper overhaul. I completely restored the instruments from the inside out, bringing everything back to true factory condition. From preserving the original dials to fitting new crimp rings and installing new needles, every detail has been taken care of. Restorations like this truly give these classics their soul back on the road.”

In this Reel I show the solution for a problem that affects every Honda GL1000 K0 instrument set. Over time the print on the original K0 gauge faces becomes brittle and starts to flake away.
The most reliable fix is to replace these fragile faces with genuine GL1000 K1 faces. They have the same layout and proportions but are made with a much more durable print that does not suffer from the typical K0 flaking.
This gives the instruments a fresh and stable appearance while keeping everything period correct for your early Goldwing.

I recently converted this Canadian kilometer speedometer into a correct UK miles per hour unit. The original odometer reading was carefully transferred and recalculated into miles so everything remains accurate and authentic. All work was done while preserving the exact same patina as the rest of the CBX1000 instrument set, so the gauge blends in perfectly, as if it has always been there.

Sometimes a full restoration is not the most cost effective option, especially when an instrument set has multiple issues. In those cases an exchange can be the smarter choice.

In this REEL you first see a 1977 XT500 set completely taken apart, followed by the fully refurbished replacement set. I’ve matched the odometer to the original mileage and all usable parts from the traded in instruments will be reused in future projects.

Nothing goes to waste and the old gauges still get a second life.

A gentle restoration with a big impact.
These Yamaha XS-2 instruments came in with completely dry needle dampers, causing the gauges to behave erratically.
A careful clean, proper lubrication and fresh calibration brought them right back to life while preserving their original character.
This is how vintage instruments should feel.

Restoration number I have honestly lost count 😅. The CBX1000Z keeps surprising me. Every cluster comes in with its own story. From aged lenses to tired mechanisms. Everything is taken apart completely and returned to the condition Honda once intended. Crisp faces, a clean crimp without marks and instruments that run smooth and precise again.
Curious how I do it and what is possible for your own project. You can find everything through my profile.

Restoring original CBX1000Z instruments back to their former glory is always special. These early Z series clusters are becoming increasingly rare and every set deserves the highest level of care. Fresh housings, precise calibration, crisp faces and smooth needle movement just as they left the factory. Another CBX saved for the next decades.

Sometimes even the toughest off road legends need a little TLC.
This Honda XR600R speedometer came in for a proper service after decades of dust, heat, and vibration. The internals were carefully cleaned, recalibrated, and relubricated, ready to measure every new adventure with factory precision again.

Keeping these classics alive is what I love most. Reliable. Authentic. Built to last.
