This CB750 K2 tachometer came to me after an accident, and at first sight it didn’t look very promising…

The glass was shattered and the impact had also affected the mechanism inside, causing it to bind.

But underneath all that damage, the original instrument was still worth saving.

Rather than making it look brand new, the goal was to repair and preserve as much of the original tachometer as possible. The mechanism was repaired, serviced and calibrated, the damaged parts were replaced, and everything was carefully put back together.

The result? Fully functional again and almost impossible to tell what happened to it. I even chose to leave the small scratch on the original dial rather than replace a perfectly good piece of its history.

Same soul. Working again.

A few practice miles on something very different from what I normally ride.

I don’t own a bike at the moment, so a family friend was kind enough to lend me his for a very special ride coming up in a couple of weeks.

I’ll be joining some friends to ride in memory of Marc, an old friend who passed away far too young earlier this summer.

For now, I’m getting used to the bike… and I have to admit, I’m starting to really enjoy it.

Okay… now I get it.

I finally understand why people get hooked on these things. What a machine. It runs beautifully, handles incredibly well and is seriously good fun to ride.

Coming from cruisers and classics, this is a completely different kind of riding. And I have to admit, I’m enjoying it a lot more than I expected.

It’s not mine unfortunately. I’ve borrowed this CBR for an upcoming motorcycle tour, so I’ve got a pretty good excuse to put some miles on it beforehand.

I’m beginning to think this could be dangerous for the wallet…

Two original 1976 Yamaha XT500 instrument sets, fully restored and looking almost factory fresh again.

One KM/H set and one MPH set, both carefully rebuilt, restored and calibrated while keeping the authentic character of these iconic instruments.

It’s hard to believe these gauges are now 50 years old. This is exactly why I love restoring them: bringing the original instruments back to a condition worthy of the motorcycle they belong to.

Ready for another 50 years on the road.

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of John Miles.

I knew John through his restoration work and always had tremendous respect for the exceptionally high standards he maintained. He was a true craftsman, and his work reflected the passion and dedication he had for these old motorcycles.

The classic motorcycle community has lost a great craftsman. He will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences and strength to his family, friends, and everyone who was close to him.

I’m proud to share the full restoration of this complete CB750K4 gauge set for a client in Singapore. The speedometer isn’t the original mph version, but a km/h unit the client already had, and it works perfectly with this type of bike. Even better, it matches beautifully with the K4 dial faces. Another classic Honda speedometer saved! 😃👍

This Honda CX650 speedometer arrived completely seized and no longer working. Once opened up, it became clear there was more going on internally than just dried-out lubrication.

The drive mechanism had suffered some damage and needed careful straightening and repair before everything could move freely again. After a complete service, a few additional repairs and a replacement needle, it was time for calibration and testing.

The result: the original speedometer is back in action and working exactly as it should. Another original instrument preserved instead of replaced. 👌

Straight back into the workshop with this Kawasaki Z1100ST MPH speedometer. It arrived damaged and completely non-functional, but after some careful electronic repairs, it’s back to life and working properly again! ⚡

My main focus is on older mechanical instruments from classic Japanese motorcycles, but occasionally I take on an electronic repair like this one too.

Always satisfying to save an original instrument! 👌
