The people behind Karisma & Dark Essence Records AS have always been interested in a lot of different musical styles and genres, which is quite evident when you look at the catalogue of releases from both labels. And, when one do dabble with more progressive and experimental music some times, it should be no surprise that we also enjoy a lot of jazz music as well. That’s why we now launch

a new sub-label, simply called Is it Jazz? Why the name Is it Jazz? Records do you ask? Well, what’s labeled jazz is so much these days, that it even within the jazz scene there’s discussions on what is jazz and what is not. Here, we will release bands and artists that we feel represents jazz for us, be it the classic sounding jazz sounding ones, the really experimental ones, the soft singer/songwriters or the hard rocking proggers. We hope you’ll enjoy our jazz discoveries, and let's see if you think it’s jazz or not!

Whatever Happens Don't Be Yourself - Tales of No Consequence

This is the party you don’t want to miss, no matter what your musical preferences are. The mix of catchy, almost pop-like melodies with explosive, hard-hitting impro noise is captivating. It’s a thrilling battle of two opposites, which you can’t take your ears off!

Formed in 2015 by Nils Are Drønen, the 9-piece orchestra Whatever Happens Don’t Be Yourself has from the start been an improvisational hotbed for both young and upcoming musicians and more seasoned players in the Bergen jazz scene. They are now set to release their 5th album, ‘Tales of No Consequence’.

Landets tøffeste liveband har turnert verden rundt siden 2003, og slipper nå tolvteplata på festivalen på Bergens-baserte Is It Jazz? Records. Fremdeles blander de energien fra rock med friheten i jazz på de mest spennende måter, der de jager hverandres ideer og impulser i musikk hvor det er lett å finne referanser til andre artister, men uten å ligne på noe annet. Hvis du liker Hendrix, Radiohead, tung elektrisk jazz eller bare rare poplåter, så blir dette kveldens høydepunkt. Se opp for gjeste-pedal steel med Johan Lindström fra Tonbruket både live og på albumet.
