As the year ends, we’d like to thank everyone who’s been listening and supporting By Norse Music. Celebrating a decade into our existence as a label, this year brought some more special moments. We’re glad to welcome new additions to the family, including folk-punk collective MÍO, Norwegian folk metal project Afargang, fronted by Olav L. Mjelva, and Icelandic composer Gísli Gunnarsson.

We were proud to release Birna by Wardruna, Kalandra’s new EP Mørketid, new music by Mari Boine, BardSpec and Emil Kárlsen, along with the acclaimed records of Afargang, MÍO and Gísli Gunnarson. None of it would be possible without you taking the time to listen, share and support. We can’t wait to keep sharing what’s coming next with you.

One of our highlights this year was the showcase of our artists and workshops at Fire In The Mountains, Blackfeet Nation, Montana. By Norse Music presented shows and workshops from Einar Selvik (Wardruna ), Lindy-Fay Hella and Sondre Veland (Wardruna), as well as By Norse co-founders Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved/BardSpec ) and Simon Füllemann (AISAmusic) .

The festival fostered a close connection and cultural exchange with the local Blackfeet tribe: in sound, but also design - where local student Reb Po***ck designed a limited edition t-shirt for Wardruna, of which the sales resulted in a $14,000 donation to the Firekeeper Alliance. A thank you goes out to Fire In The Mountains and Firekeeper Alliance for this lasting partnerships and more.

Emil Kárlsen is now releasing a music video for his latest song "Heikka-vilba"; a yoik inspired on the dovdna (traditional children's yoik) that Emil sang to his cousin Heikka.

Emil shares: “As a child, Heikka had a special running-style, almost jumping as he made his way, and sometimes he would surprise with comments that you usually expected from an older, wise man. These quirks layed the foundation for his dovdna.”

Mari Boine ’s 1993 masterpiece 'Goaskinviellja (Eagle Brother)' returns in a newly remastered edition, out now on By Norse. Recorded at the legendary Rainbow Studio, the album blends joik, jazz, and world music textures into a timeless soundscape. This reissue includes a previously unreleased version of ‘Roahkkadit rohtte luođi mánážan – Child, Listen Child,’ discovered in the archives of the National Library of Norway – a heartfelt tribute to heritage and future generations.

Norwegian quartet Kalandra are releasing a beautiful music video for their previously released song "Hymna til Blåfjell"!

Hymna til Blåfjell is a cover originally from an old Norwegian children’s TV calendar series in the early 00’s, but the song has been rearranged quite a lot from its original form.

The Mørketid EP features four tracks—two carefully reimagined covers alongside two original compositions.

Kalandra: "This collection of winter songs is for everyone—regardless of what you believe, or don’t believe. May these songs be your soundtrack for finding the strength to make it through another winter"

On 'Úr Öskunni', Gísli Gunnarsson works together with the Lyra String Quartet for a number of songs. The collaboration on "Aska" transformed the track and conveyed such desperation and grief.

"Aska is one of the tracks where the Lyra String Quartet absolutely blew me away. Their expressiveness was frankly quite overwhelming and emotional to even be in the studio while recording this one."
