Finally here – our new Arctic sled!

We’re excited to share that we have finally added a brand new sled from Arctic Lavvo, which will now be used on several of our experiences with the reindeer.

Many of our tours involve long snowmobile rides in true Arctic conditions, and it can often be very cold out on the tundra. Because of that, we wanted to invest in something that makes the journey much more comfortable for our guests — with better seating, better protection from wind and cold, and an overall smoother ride.

The sled is almost fully panoramic, so even while sitting warm and comfortable inside, you still have a clear view of everything happening outside. Whether it’s watching a reindeer herd moving across the tundra, spotting northern lights above you, or simply enjoying the vast Arctic landscape, you won’t miss a moment.

This sled will be used on several of our experiences, including:

• Slow Life – Winter with a Sámi Reindeer Herding Family
• Spring Reindeer Calving Experience
• Spring Reindeer Migration Experience

These tours allow you to come close to Sámi culture, reindeer herding traditions, and life in the Arctic, following the natural rhythm of the herd and the seasons.

With the new sled, the experience becomes more comfortable and accessible for everyone, while still keeping you close to nature and the real Sámi way of life.

The sled will be used throughout the winter season and into the spring migration period.

Spring Calving in the Arctic

Every May, new life arrives in the mountains.

Reindeer return to the same quiet valleys to give birth — just as they have for generations.

This is one of the most fragile and powerful periods in Sámi reindeer herding. The herd is calm. Protective. Alert.

For a short window in May, we invite a very small number of guests to join us during calving season.



Not as spectators.
But as quiet participants in the day.

There are no guarantees.
No staging.
Only what nature allows.

If the timing is right, you may witness a newborn calf take its first steps beside its mother.
If not, you are still present during one of the most important moments in Sámi life.

Season: May 4 – May 20
Duration: 7–8 hours

Calf Marking Under the Midnight Sun

Every summer, Sámi reindeer herders gather to earmark the newborn calves.

It happens only once each year, when the calves are strong enough to travel. Families work together through the Arctic night, identifying each calf and giving it its rightful family mark — a system of ownership passed down through generations.

The work begins late in the evening.
The herd is guided into the corral.
The sun stays above the horizon.

This is an important part of modern reindeer herding — and the main income period for many families.
