Nefandus.🦇

Here are some photos of the Swedish black metal band Nefandus taken around the time of their debut album "The Nightwinds Carried Our Names" (1996). There is nothing quite like the Swedish black metal that was coming out in the late 90s - early 00s.⚰️

Bands like Funeral Mist, Watain, Malign, Triumphator and Ofermod carried to torch that was passed to them by the Norwegian bands in the mid 90s. Nefandus is a bit more obscure than those aforementioned Swedish bands, but that's just because they only managed to release one album during their original incarnation. "The Nightwinds Carried Our Names" is an incredible album nonetheless, absolutely furious and full of fire from beginning to end. ⚔️

Shortly after the recording of the album, drummer/lyricist Mika Hakola would lose interest in the band and form his own project - Ofermod.

Old Funeral were one of the first bands to form in the Norwegian extreme metal scene, formed in 1988. ⚔️

By 1992, the band had already dissolved.Since the breakup, many members (such as Abbath and Demonaz of Immortal, and Varg Vikernes, in Old Funeral as Kristian Vikernes, of Burzum) are now quite famous as members of the early Norwegian black metal scene.🦇

On 15 November 2015, Old Funeral reunited to perform at Blekkmetal 2015 in Bergen, Norway.⚰️

How about some killer Danish black metal from the legendary horde: Denial of God, circa 1992-1994.🦇

The live footage in the first clip is from the bands first show outside of Denmark, which took place at the Wik-ked Club in Halmstad, Sweden on December 5th, 1992. As much as I worship black metal bands of the later 90s, in my mind, there is no denying the magickal / irreplicable atmosphere brought forth by the earlier bands of the decade. 🪦

I personally feel that '91-'94 was the pinnacle. I've included some zine scanned promo photos from early D.O.G. interviews.⚰️

If you're unfamiliar with Danish black metal, be sure to check out Denial of God - especially their '93 demo "The Dawn of Aemizaez". It's an incredibly cold and menacing recording that seems to be left out of many 2nd wave black Metal conversations.🕸️

B.S.o.D - Black Son of Darkness.⚰️

Grausamkeit - One-man Black Metal band from Germany (Bischmisheim, Saarland), formed in 1994. Released 18 demos and three splits and two full albums (Christenschmähung) 2000 (Hellgoat) 2000 between 1995 and 2001.🕯️

He was in jail from Winter 2003-Autumn 2004, Winter 2004-Autumn 2005, Summer 2006-2012, from 2014-September 2015, and again from mid-/ late 2016 to March 20th, 2019. He is currently out of jail. During his time in prison he played in a Böhse Onkelz cover band and in a Hells Angels band called 81.⚒️

As of June 2013, he has 147 offenses on his police record - one for violence, one for incitement of hatred, and the other 145 for drug-related offense.🦇

Here's a classic, the obscure Master's Hammer music video for "Géniové" that aired on Czech TV's ČT2 'Hit Parade' from back in 1992. Whereas the video was originally filmed for their debut album "Ritual" the audio that is dubbed over (hence the mouthing) was ripped from the "Ultra Metal" LP that released in 1990.🕯️

Labeled as the "Thrash/Death/Black Metal Sampler" it featured a compilation of Czech metal bands such as Master's Hammer, Debustrol, Kabát, Moriorr, Ferat and V.A.R. Czechoslovakia really created their own sound if you ask me.⚰️

Hardly any others you can compare them too, especially with bands like Master's Hammer and Root. Praise Czech Metal!⚔️

The first tour, the Black War tour, is done together with Unpure theoughout Europe.

Due to severing a finger, Pelle is temporarily replaced by Whorth from Malign for the duration of the tour.🦇

Whorth eventually replaces Tore as a live member on bass.⚰️
