Laibach and A/POLITICAL present Alamut - a brand-new album of original symphonic work based on the novel of the same name - released on double vinyl and CD box set via Mute. The album was recorded by Laibach and the musicians who performed Alamut live at a former Crusader castle in Ljubljana in 2022. The musicians involved include the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, the Human-Voice Ensemble vocal group from Tehran, the Gallina Women’s Choir, and AccordiOna, a women’s accordion orchestra backed by additional accordion players, conducted by Iranian conductor Navid Goharib.Alamut is an original symphonic work by Laibach based on a famous story from eleventh-century Persia, as told by the Slovene writer Vladimir Bartol in his novel of the same title published in 1938. The central character is Hassan-i Sabbāh, the charismatic religious and political leader of the Nizari Ismailis and the founder of a mysterious military formation known as the Assassins, whose name is still feared and respected today. Hassan-i Sabbāh is a self-proclaimed prophet who leads a holy war against the Seljuk Empire from his eyrie – the castle of Alamut. Alamut looked at mechanisms of propaganda at the time when Bartol, a Slovenian author, witnessed the rise of Fascism in Trieste, Italy, where he lived. In Laibach’s Alamut, the ideas of radical nihilism interweave with the classical Persian poetry of Omar Khayyam, the sensual verses of Mahsati Ganjavi blend with minimalist orchestral colours derived from Iranian tradition. Hassan-i Sabbāh’s propaganda mechanisms are echoed in the industrial principle of the workings of the orchestra and Laibach’s unique sound.

There were four members in Kraftwerk’s often mooted classic period from 1974’s ‘Autobahn’ to 1986’s ‘Electric Café’ and Wolfgang Flür was one of them, the band’s erstwhile electronic percussionist.

Wolfgang Flür’s subsequent and celebrated emergence as a solo, creative electro-pop tour de force has been steadfast and determined. His early life’s musical immersion in Kraftwerk instilled a dramatic electronic / synth sensibility which has become, in his highly productive later life, a gift that keeps on giving with a dependability and surprise factor that has eluded many of his contemporaries.

For now, he holds the torch for the continuing creativity of his generation of electronic music pioneers: inspiring and entertaining, while still pushing boundaries within his unique oeuvre of highly melodic, narrative led, retro- futurism. His music is immersive and though he grapples with the accelerated passing of time and the rapidity of changes therein, he does it with a celebratory optimism; a relentless, infectious hope for humanity.

Second regular studio album by the Norwegian Electropop heroes!

Piston Damp is a Norwegian-Danish synthpop duo formed by Jonas Groth and Truls

Sønsterud. Jonas Groth is the brother of Stephan Groth, the frontman of Apoptygma Berzerk,

and has been heavily involved in the music scene for over two decades. Piston Damp started

as a side project while Apoptygma Berzerk was on tour, but it remained largely dormant until

2020, when the duo decided to relaunch the project.

Their music blends elements of classic synthpop with strong melodies and emotionally charged

lyrics. Their debut album, “Making the World Great Again” (2021), included standout singles

like “Runaway” and “Something In Me”.

The duo is praised for its catchy hooks, reminiscent of bands like Mesh, and their modern

take on electronic music.

Piston Damp has released several singles, including remixes by electronic artists such as

Pegboard Nerds and Technomancer. Their music often incorporates media samples, giving

it a unique tone that resonates with synthpop fans.

since the turn of this unbearably turbulent century and the concept appears to have become

an unlikely soap opera where we are the cast. Let's hang in there…
