SPLM-IO came to releazing that there’s a renewed assassination plot against First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, allegedly involving President Salva Kiir, two VPs, and a former minister. The group warned of “serious consequences” if harm comes to Machar.
They also noted the release of 74 detainees on Sept. 24 but demanded Machar’s unconditional release. SPLM-IO called on IGAD, AU, UN, Troika, and the EU to urgently intervene.

A Dinka man who recently went live on Facebook insulting Advocate Kur Lual — the defense lawyer representing Dr. Riek Machar — has publicly apologized for his remarks. In his initial statement, he claimed that Kur Lual, being a Dinka, should not defend Dr. Riek Machar. However, after receiving calls and advice from many members of the Dinka community and his friends, he realized his comments were inappropriate and divisive. He has since apologized, acknowledging that what he said was wrong and should not have been said.

Hundreds of South Sudanese in Unity State, Bentiu have taken to the streets in a mass demonstration, questioning the legality of the Special Court set up to prosecute Dr. Riek Machar on what they describe as false allegations.
Protesters argue that even if Dr. Machar had committed any wrongdoing, such matters should fall under the jurisdiction of a Hybrid Court, not a Special Court.

BREAKING NEWS 🚨
24 September 2025 – Western Equatoria State
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, at approximately 4:00 AM, a joint force of the National Salvation Front (NAS) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-In Opposition (SPLA-IO) launched an assault on the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) garrison in Kadi’ba County, Mundri area, Western Equatoria State.
According to a joint statement from the two opposition groups, their forces overran the base and seized significant military equipment, including one armored personnel carrier (APC), two 12.7mm heavy machine guns, four PKM machine guns, and seventeen AK-47 rifles, along with assorted ammunition.
The statement further alleged that thirteen SSPDF soldiers were killed during the attack, while others fled. The joint opposition forces claimed to have taken full control of Kadi’ba County following the operation.
Opposition commanders Col. Lam Paul Gabriel (SPLA-IO) and Lt. Col. Kenyi Mogga Lomeling (NAS) described the offensive as a response to what they called “continued harassment and looting” of civilians by government troops in the area. They pledged further operations against SSPDF positions, while urging civilians to avoid traveling in military convoys due to the risk of attacks.
This development signals a significant escalation in Western Equatoria, with the opposition claiming new territorial control in Kadi’ba.
