«I wanted to write a slightly different kind of thriller—one that’s about much more than just solving a crime. This isn’t your classic “whodunnit.” The book is both a story about power abuse in the cultural industry before and after and an existential exploration of being a single, childless woman entering her 40s.»

«At its core, this novel explores what it means to be Indigenous Sámi in changing times. Who were we? Who are we? Who will we become? These weighty questions linger over the book, even though the writing itself is infused with humor and playfulness.»

We are so thrilled that Veronica Skotnes's narrative non-fiction debut about sailing alone along the Finnmark coast will be published in English by Akoya in 2026 ⛵️

Founder of Akoya, Camilla Hagen writes: «I am thrilled to announce the English publication of Skotnes’ breathtaking debut. Reading it in its original Norwegian, I was deeply moved by her ability to weave history, nature and human endurance into a narrative as vast and untamed as the coastline it portrays. With vivid, evocative prose, Veronica brings to life the raw beauty of Norway’s seascape – the Northern Lights, the relentless waves, the silent echoes of war – while illuminating the resilience of those who have called it home.»

Akoya will publish North of the Winter Sun: What I Heard in the Waves by Veronica Skotnes, translated by Diane Oatley.
