"Prison Cheese is about volunteering as a gravedigger, helping the local village idiot sort the corpses "correctly". It's a morbid tale, but also a celebration of high quality
gardening tools and the joys of manual labour."

"Fear of the Plow" is a continuation of our previous album "Hypno", where we managed to find a sound that felt entirely our own. The songs worked better live, they were more fun to play, and they had depth and staying power.

We also moved somewhat away from the straightforward hardcore, and brought in influences from 60s psych, post punk and really just everything else with good taste. It’s a musical landscape we felt more at home in.

Surprisingly, this didn’t result in prettier music. It became darker, rawer, and even uglier. A fun bonus.

This time around, however, in certain parts, it almost sounds pretty. Some might even say it sounds mature. And we'll just have to live with that.

Trond, who produced, recorded, and mixed the album, has outdone himself this time. There’s so much glorious sound and noise to get lost in, you might as well call your boss and say you’ve unfortunately come down with AIDS.

The process of making the album has taken several years, and we’ve honestly lost track of exactly how long. It’s probably the vocalist’s fault.

The lyrics took some time to come together—not so much because you have to live to have something to write about, but because you have to sleep a hell of a lot to find inspiration.

There are serious issues and important themes being dealt with, though often presented through fantasy and science fiction. A recurring theme is the struggle of life after turning 40—an extremely old age, almost arrogant.

The songs include stories of being a one-year-old loaf of bread—a high age for bread—and a 900-year-old human, which is quite old for a human.

The title track "Fear of the Plow" is a dystopian future tale inspired by stumbling upon the thought experiment Roko’s Basilisk on the internet forum LessWrong—a deadly theory about AI that you’re probably better off not looking into.

Luckily, the song is now finished and the theory mostly forgotten, so we can go back to living like old bread (or whatever you feel like being).

The live lineup has seen a minor adjustment: when bassist Vegard moved to Moss and quit, William took over bass duties. Trond now has to sound like two guitars (no problem).

Vegard, however, is still on the recording, which means he gets to watch his own band live with a beer in hand—and collect passive income from Tono.
