Hi, we’re Erika and Mark, a midlife-ish travel couple who recently traded the US for expat life in Porto, Portugal. We’re in our 40s, figuring this all out as we go: chasing new adventures, sharing the wins (and the fails), and hopefully making travel + expat life feel a little more real and a lot less intimidating. You’ll find travel tips, food finds, guides, and plenty of everyday moments from life in Portugal and beyond. Think: Type B energy with the occasional Type A tendencies sneaking in.

Dreamy views, great food, and a front-row seat to Porto ✨

Located inside the historic Graham's Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, Vinum combines incredible food, world-famous port wine, and some of the best views of Porto you'll find anywhere.

The menu highlights Portuguese ingredients and flavors, with many dishes cooked over a wood-fired grill. The grilled squid was outstanding and perfectly charred, tender, and packed with flavor. The wine list showcases the ports and wines that have made Graham's a household name for nearly 200 years.

Whether you're stopping by after a cellar tour or booking a special dinner overlooking the Douro River, Vinum is one of those places that feels uniquely Porto.

Iceland’s South Coast is unlike anywhere else on earth. 🇮🇸💙

Black sand beaches, waterfalls around every corner, a glacier you can walk right up to — and Icelandic horses grazing against jagged cliffs at every turn. We completely understand why people say visiting Iceland feels like another planet.

We went in May and loved it — fewer crowds and the landscape somehow even more vivid than we expected. We also completely lucked out with the weather, being treated to stunning rainbows at nearly every waterfall stop we made. 🌈
