Nepal head into their next SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 clash against Sri Lanka with a dominant record in recent meetings between the two sides.
In the previous SAFF Women’s Championship edition, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 6-0 with goals from Sabita Rana Magar, Sabitra Bhandari, Rekha Poudel, Amisha Karki, and Rashmi Kumari Ghising.
Interestingly, among the goalscorers from that match, only Rekha Poudel and Rashmi Kumari Ghising remains in the current Nepal squad. Star striker Sabitra Bhandari and forward Sabita Rana Magar are currently sidelined due to injury and undergoing rehabilitation, while Amisha Karki has been serving in the Nepal Army as a lieutenant for more than a year.
Nepal also dominated Sri Lanka last year in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, securing an emphatic 8-0 victory, with Sabitra Bhandari scoring a hat-trick and Gita Rana netting twice.
Historically, Nepal women’s national team have faced Sri Lanka 10 times and won all 10 matches, scoring 44 goals without suffering a single defeat.
After opening their SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 campaign with a 1-0 win over Bhutan, the Chelis will now face Sri Lanka on 28 May at 4:45 PM NST.
