🇳🇵 “नेपाल फर्किनुस्, यो देश बन्छ” - सभामुख डोलप्रसाद अर्याल

Speaker of Parliament Dol Prasad Aryal has urged Nepalis living abroad to prepare to return home, saying Nepal is moving towards good governance, employment creation, ending co'rruption and becoming a truly livable country for all citizens regardless of religion or caste.

Speaking at the month-long Purushottam Festival in Salangtar, Dhading, Aryal said:
“नेपाल बस्न लायक देश बन्छ, सुशासन कायम हुन्छ, भ्र'ष्टाचार अन्त्य हुन्छ, सबैले सम्मानका साथ आफ्नो धर्म मान्न पाउनेछन्।”

Aryal, who was elected MP from the Rastriya Swatantra Party and later became Speaker, also said their entry into politics was to change the system and work according to the interests of ordinary Nepalis.

But the reality remains p'ainful:
Thousands of Nepali youths continue leaving the country every month due to unemployment and la'ck of opportunities. Some even reached w'ar-hit countries like Israel, Iraq and Russia searching for jobs and sur'vival.

According to recent data, over 525,000 Nepalis left for foreign employment in just the first eight months of the current fiscal year, while around 1.5 million Nepalis traveled abroad in 2025 alone.

Recent reports show foreign employment numbers slightly d'eclined due to Middle East te'nsions and the Israel-Iran co'nflict, but the overall youth exodus remains massive.

Will Nepal finally create enough hope, jobs and stability for its youths to return home? 🇳🇵

🚨 Massive To'bacco Tax H'ike Likely in Upcoming Nepal Budget? 🚬📈

Just few days before the FY 2083/84 budget announcement, Action Nepal has demanded a huge increase in taxes on to'bacco products, urging the government to impose up to 333% higher health ha'zard tax and at least 50% more excise duty on cig'arettes, b'idi, gu'tkha, kh'aini, and other t'obacco products.

The organization says Nepal still has one of South Asia’s lowest tob'acco tax rates despite rising health and economic dam'age caused by sm'oking. With global pre'ssure and WHO recommendations pushing for stronger to'bacco co'ntrol, the chances of higher ciga'rette prices in the upcoming budget are now growing.

Action Nepal’s major proposals include:

▪️ B'idi health haz'ard tax hike from Rs 0.30 to Rs 1 per stick

▪️ Cig'arette and cig'ar tax increase from Rs 0.60 to Rs 2 per stick

▪️ Tob'acco, gu'tkha, kh'aini, and pa'n tax rise from Rs 60 to Rs 180 per kg

▪️ At least 50% increase in excise duty on all to'bacco products

The report claims over 39,000 Nepalis d'ie annually from to'bacco-related di'seases, while to'bacco taxes in Nepal remain far below WHO’s recommended 75% retail price benchmark.

If the government accepts even part of these recommendations, smo'kers across Nepal could soon face one of the biggest to'bacco price hi'kes in recent years. 💸🚭

🇳🇵 Makalu Barun National Park has announced the opening of Yarsagumba collection from Jestha 25 to Asar 25 across high Himalayan regions of Sankhuwasabha and Solukhumbu.

Interested individuals and groups can collect the highly valuable medicinal fungus after obtaining permits from designated park offices. Locals say income earned from Yarsagumba helps manage yearly household expenses, children’s education, food and healthcare.

Traders say premium Yarsagumba can sell for lakhs to millions of rupees per kilogram, with most collections exported through Kathmandu to Tibet, China and international markets.

However, climate change is rapidly reducing Yarsagumba yield in Nepal’s Himalayas. Experts and local collectors report declining snowfall, rising temperatures and drying alpine pastures are making the rare fungus harder to find every year, reducing both collector numbers and harvest volumes.

NHRC Report Links Sudhan Gurung & T'OB Biker Group to Esca'lation of Gen Z Pr'otest

Nepal’s National Human Rights Commission says the Gen Z pr'otest turned vio'lent after Sudhan Gurung took leadership of the crowd near Everest Hotel, New Baneshwor.

According to the inv'estigation report, the prot'est initially began peacefully with around 3,000-3,200 participants within the approved area. However, within a short time, the crowd expanded dramatically to nearly 20,000-25,000 people after moving through Babarmahal and Bijuli Bazaar toward New Baneshwor.

The report states that biker groups wearing black “T'OB” T-shirts and tattoos marked “TO'B” arrived at the scene and allegedly inten'sified the atmosphere. After Gurung assumed leadership around noon, protesters rep'ortedly became aggr'essive, br'oke police bar'ricades, and atte'mpted to enter res'tricted zones, leading to cla'shes, ri'ots, and confron'tations with security fo'rces.

The commission further claims that tear gas and water cannons were only used after cla'shes had already e'rupted. It also alleges that the TO'B biker group h'ijacked the peaceful Gen Z demo'nstration, used students as shie'lds, att'acked security personnel with stones, and participated in va'ndalism and ar'son ta'rgeting the Parliament area.

NHRC has recommended further inve'stigation into the identity and role of the 15-20 member T'OB biker group. The report also mentions an earlier di'spute at Maitighar between Gen Z pr'otest organizers, including Raksha Bam and Jasmin Ojha, and Sudhan Gurung over preparations such as tents, ambulances, volunteers, and sound systems arranged by Hami Nepal.

Entrepreneur Birendra Bahadur Basnet has proposed major structural re'forms for Nepal - from reducing administrative costs through local government restructuring to transforming subsistence farming into industrialized agriculture.

During discussions on constitutional ame'ndment proposals, Basnet suggested merging Nepal’s 753 local bodies to around 200 for efficiency, while expanding ward-level service delivery for education, healthcare, employment, and local industries. He also emphasized fixing Minimum Support Prices (MSP) before production and establishing community-based agro industries led by wards and local governments.

His ar'gument comes at a time when Nepal continues facing rising imports, w'eak domestic production, youth mig'ration, and dependency on remittance-driven consumption instead of industrial growth. Recent economic data show Nepal imported goods worth over Rs 1.12 trillion in just seven months while exports stood at only Rs 168 billion. More than 245,000 Nepalis left for foreign employment during the same period, highlighting the country’s deep employment cr'isis.

Despite agriculture still employing a major share of the population, Nepal increasingly depends on imported food and consumer goods. Crit'ics argue past governments f'ailed to modernize agriculture, build rural industries, and create value-added production chains.

If implemented properly, reforms like MSP guarantees, agro-processing industries, storage infrastructure, mechanization, and decentralized local production could help Nepal reduce imports, create jobs, strengthen exports, and keep more youth working inside the country instead of relying heavily on foreign labor migration and remittance inflows.

Nepali Congress MP Narendra Kumar Kerung said he obj'ected after RSP lawmaker Jagdish Kharel spoke in Parliament “as if he were the Prime Minister” while opposition parties were demanding acco'untability over the government’s ordi'nances.

Kerung claimed Kharel’s remarks cr'ossed parliamentary decorum, especially after calling the opposition’s protest a “tama'sha.” He said the opposition was only asking for the Prime Minister’s direct response in the House, not answers from another MP.

Following the hea'ted exchange, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal susp'ended the House session for 15 minutes.

NEPAL PUSHES FOR ETHANOL REVOLUTION 🇳🇵⛽

Industry Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav has urged the private sector to invest in ethanol production after inspecting Nepal Oil Corporation’s Amlekhgunj Provincial Office in Bara.

Officials briefed the minister on Nepal’s fuel demand, supply system, and storage capacity as the country moves ahead with E10 fuel blending policy. With rising global petroleum prices, the government is now focusing on alternative energy to reduce import dependency and strengthen Nepal’s energy security.

Experts say E10 blending could help Nepal save nearly NRS 12.5 billion annually while promoting cleaner and locally produced fuel alternatives.

The post comes at a time when opposition parties have been crit'icizing him for not being active in Parliament, accu'sing him of being “more active on Facebook than in the House.” Several lawmakers have argu'ed that national questions should be answered inside Parliament, not through social media statuses.

Known mostly for appearing in black coats, B***n also grabbed atte'ntion for posting photos in an all-white outfit for the second time on Saturday, continuing the viral trend around his stylish and AI-edited photos circ'ulating online.

But beyond the viral aesthetics, the message behind this post may be bigger: GO LOCAL.

DDC (Dairy Development Corporation) is not just another dairy brand. For decades, it has been one of Nepal’s most trusted state-owned institutions, collecting milk directly from Nepali farmers, pasteurizing it, and supplying dairy products across the country. Thousands of rural families depend on it for daily income, and for many consumers, DDC still represents quality and trust over imports and aggre'ssive private comp'etition.

Yet the institution has stru'ggled for years with del'ayed farmer payments, political inst'ability, management is'sues, uns'old stock, and financial pres'sure. Farmers at times rep'ortedly waited months to receive payments despite continuous milk supply.

The government has inten'sified market insp'ections across different parts of the country to c'urb market i'rregularities and ensure consumer rights. Offices under the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection carried out inspe'ctions in Kathmandu, Birgunj, and Biratnagar on Jestha 1, taking a'ction a'gainst several businesses v'iolating consumer protection laws.

As part of the nationwide “Price Transparency Week” launched from Baisakh 28, authorities have accelerated monitoring activities to maintain market governance and promote fair com'petition.

In Kathmandu, inspe'ctions were conducted on 35 firms in Tokha and Lalitpur. Trust Footwear Pvt. Ltd. was fi'ned Rs. 205,000 for viol'ating provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018. Other businesses including Unique Footwear & Fancy Collection and Lamsal Footwear & Fancy Collection were also fi'ned, while several firms received warn'ings and improvement directives.

In Birgunj, three firms were f'ined for operating against consumer protection laws and regulations, while another business was ordered to improve its operations.

Meanwhile, in Biratnagar, ex'pired food products sei'zed from four businesses were con'fiscated and de'stroyed. Two establishments had their operations sus'pended, while others were instructed to make immediate improvements.

Authorities say market inspections will continue regularly to protect consumers’ health and rights, and legal ac'tion will be taken ag'ainst businesses found viol'ating regulations.

A brand-new CT Scan machine inaugurated at Ram Kumar Sarada Uma Prasad Murarka Provincial Hospital in Lahan, Siraha remains non-operational due to la'ck of skilled manpower.

Despite spending nearly Rs 12 crore to improve healthcare access outside major cities, the hospital still cannot run the service because qualified radiology staff are un'available. Officials say at least three trained personnel are urgently needed, while experts bl'ame poor government workforce management, staff transfers, and increasing concentration of healthcare professionals in major urban areas or abroad.

The machine was brought to provide affordable specialist healthcare to common people, but months later, patients are still waiting. Cases like this highlight Nepal’s growing healthcare brain dr'ain and the government’s failure to manage manpower effectively beyond the capital and major cities.
