The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new regulations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, tightening restrictions on player movement, dressing room access, and match-day protocols. One of the key changes includes barring family members and friends of players from entering dressing rooms, even on practice days. They will now have to watch team practice from the hospitality area.

Additionally, all players are now required to travel using the team bus, a rule that aligns with international team protocols. Teams may travel in two batches for better logistics. Fitness tests will no longer be conducted on the main pitch on match days, and players must wear the Orange and Purple caps for at least two overs. Furthermore, sleeveless jerseys and floppies are banned during post-match presentations, with financial penalties for non-compliance.

Other updates include stricter rules on net practice, where teams are limited to designated nets, and a restriction on hitting practice balls into LED boards. BCCI will hold an in-person meeting with all IPL captains on March 20 in Mumbai to discuss these changes before the tournament kicks off on March 22 in Kolkata.

Australian cricket legend Steve Smith has officially announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) following Australia's exit from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Smith, a two-time ICC Men's Cricket World Cup winner, will continue playing Test and T20I cricket but has decided to step aside from the 50-over format to allow new talents to prepare for the 2027 World Cup.

Smith, who played 170 ODIs for Australia, amassed 5,800 runs at an impressive average of 43.28, including 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries. Additionally, he contributed with the ball, taking 28 wickets. His stellar performances played a crucial role in Australia’s World Cup victories in 2015 and 2023.

Reflecting on his career, Smith expressed gratitude for the journey, stating, "Winning two World Cups was a great highlight along with the many fantastic teammates who shared the journey." Cricket Australia and selection chair George Bailey fully support Smith's decision, acknowledging his remarkable contribution to the team.

While Smith bids farewell to ODI cricket, he remains focused on Test cricket, setting his sights on the upcoming World Test Championship Final, the West Indies tour, and England’s visit to Australia. His leadership and experience will continue to play a vital role in the Australian squad.

Arsenal has etched its name in UEFA Champions League history with a stunning 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Round of 16. This record-breaking performance makes them the first team to score seven goals in an away knockout stage match.

The Gunners’ dominant display saw goals from Jurrien Timber, Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard, Riccardo Calafiori, and captain Martin Ødegaard, who netted twice. This historic win also marked PSV’s worst-ever home defeat, ending their 113-year record of never losing by a six-goal margin.

Arsenal’s triumph surpasses previous away knockout records, with Real Madrid’s 6-1 win over Schalke in 2013-14 being the closest comparison. Even Bayern Munich’s famous 8-2 demolition of Barcelona in 2020 occurred at a neutral venue.

With this result, Mikel Arteta’s side has one foot in the quarterfinals, where they await the winner of the Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid tie. Arsenal can now afford to rotate their squad in the second leg as they prepare for key Premier League clashes, including a crucial fixture against Manchester United.

In a historic achievement, Virat Kohli has surpassed Shikhar Dhawan to become India’s highest run-scorer in ICC Champions Trophy history. The milestone came during the high-stakes semi-final clash against Australia in Dubai on March 4, 2025. Kohli’s brilliant knock helped him reach a total of 746 runs in just 16 innings, overtaking Dhawan’s previous record of 701 runs in the tournament’s history.

With this feat, Kohli now ranks as the second-highest run-scorer in Champions Trophy history, trailing only West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who has 791 runs. Kohli’s consistency and ability to deliver in crucial matches have once again been highlighted, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

Additionally, Kohli also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most 50-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments. His 24th fifty-plus score, including his seventh in the Champions Trophy, proves his dominance in world cricket.

As India qualified for their fifth Champions Trophy final, Kohli’s contribution remains invaluable. With one more match to go, fans eagerly await another masterclass from the Indian captain as he aims to break more records and guide his team to victory.

Melamchi Pipeline Burst Causes Road Damage and Flooding in Thapathali

A major water supply pipeline burst in the Thapathali area of Kathmandu early on March 4, 2025, causing significant damage to roads, businesses, and traffic flow. The rupture occurred near the turning point from Thapathali Chowk towards Norvic Hospital, leading to flooding in nearby shops, including restaurants, pharmacies, and fruit vendors. The powerful surge of water resulted in the collapse of a section of the road, scattering mud, stones, and debris across the area.

The sudden flooding created difficulties for both pedestrians and vehicles, leading to temporary traffic disruption. Authorities responded promptly, deploying clean-up crews and heavy machinery to clear the debris. The water has now been drained, and the road has been reopened for normal operations.

This incident highlights recurring concerns about Kathmandu’s water infrastructure. Just last month, on February 12, a similar pipeline burst in the Bijulibazar-Babarmahal area submerged government offices, including the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation. The frequent failures of Melamchi pipelines raise serious questions about their durability and maintenance, sparking concerns over their long-term impact on urban infrastructure and public safety.

Virat Kohli Leads India to Champions Trophy Final with Win Over Australia

India secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held at the Dubai International Stadium on March 4. Veteran batsman Virat Kohli led the charge with a composed 84, anchoring India’s chase of 265. Although he fell in the closing stages, KL Rahul’s unbeaten 42 ensured India crossed the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

Australia, after electing to bat first, posted 264 runs, with skipper Steve Smith scoring 73 and Alex Carey contributing 61. India’s bowling attack, led by Mohammed Shami (3-48), restricted Australia despite key partnerships. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with two wickets each.

India faced early setbacks in their chase but recovered through a crucial 91-run partnership between Kohli and Shreyas Iyer (45). Australia’s bowling unit, missing key pacers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, fought hard, with Adam Zampa and Nathan Ellis taking key wickets. However, Rahul and Hardik Pandya’s late contributions sealed India’s place in the final, where they will face either South Africa or New Zealand.

India’s victory marks redemption for their defeat to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. The second semi-final will take place in Lahore on March 5.

Trump and Zelensky Clash in Heated White House Exchange

A tense meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky erupted into a heated exchange at the White House on Friday. Trump criticized Zelensky for not being "thankful enough" for U.S. support, accusing him of "gambling with World War Three" by resisting Washington’s proposed ceasefire negotiations. The confrontation comes after Zelensky publicly stated that Trump was "living in a disinformation space" created by Russia, escalating tensions between the two leaders.

The meeting, which initially started with formal pleasantries, quickly spiraled into a contentious debate over U.S. military aid and Ukraine’s stance in the ongoing war with Russia. Trump, who has been pushing for a negotiated settlement with Russia, expressed frustration over Zelensky’s reluctance to engage in the process. In response, Zelensky insisted that any peace deal must prioritize Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The diplomatic fallout from this clash is expected to have significant implications for U.S.-Ukraine relations and ongoing efforts to end the war. Political analysts are closely monitoring the situation, as the confrontation could impact U.S. foreign policy and NATO’s approach toward the conflict.

Children today face a growing threat from toxic chemicals in our environment, with exposure beginning as early as the womb and lasting a lifetime. Chronic diseases such as asthma, autism, ADHD, depression, obesity, diabetes, and leukemia have dramatically increased over the past two generations, now affecting one in four children. These alarming health issues are linked not to genetics but to everyday chemicals like lead, cadmium, mercury, pesticides, flame retardants, phthalates, and bisphenol A.

A landmark case in the UK highlighted the severe impact of air pollution on children's health when Ella, a young girl with severe asthma, died. Her mother fought for seven years to have air pollution recognized as a cause of death on her death certificate, marking the first time this has been done in the UK. This case underscores the pervasive presence of toxic chemicals, not just near industrial sites but also in our homes, food, and water.

Exposure to these harmful substances can lead to serious health conditions, including increased risks of cancer, ADHD, and asthma. Despite this, regulatory systems have lagged, often permitting chemicals until proven toxic—a process that can take decades. Immediate steps like banning harmful substances from everyday products and stricter regulations are crucial to protecting future generations.

Amidst criticism and following Pakistan's unexpected defeat to the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan's captain Babar Azam achieved a significant milestone by surpassing India's Virat Kohli to become the leading run-scorer in T20 International (T20I) cricket. This feat was accomplished during Pakistan's campaign opener against the United States at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.

Babar scored 44 runs off 43 balls, which included three fours and two sixes, helping his team post a competitive total of 159 for 7 in 20 overs. With this, Babar's total T20I runs reached 4067 in 120 matches, overtaking Kohli's 4038 runs in 118 matches.

The upcoming high-stakes match between India and Pakistan on June 9 in New York will offer Kohli a chance to reclaim the top spot. This game is highly anticipated, although the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium has faced criticism for its pitch conditions, which have been challenging for batsmen due to uneven bounce and a slow outfield.

Despite the defeat, Babar's record-breaking performance stands as a testament to his skill and consistency in T20I cricket. His achievement not only highlights his individual talent but also adds a competitive edge to the forthcoming matches in the T20 World Cup.

Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, a Pakistani singer, recently faced a setback when his viral hit 'Bado Badi' was removed from YouTube due to copyright infringement claims. The song, which garnered millions of views across South Asia within a month of its release in April 2024, is said to be a rendition of a classic track originally performed by Noor Jehan in the 1973 film "Banarasi Thug." The popularity of 'Bado Badi' was significant, with listeners from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, highlighting its widespread appeal.

Khan, who gained popularity during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 through his unique music videos, has a repertoire that includes songs like "Pyara PSL," "Lota Lota," "Gol Kattara," and "Tu Chor Chor Chor." His distinctive style, characterized by repetitive beats and altered lyrics from existing tracks, has sparked divided opinions among music enthusiasts. While some appreciate his entertaining approach, others criticize it for lacking musical depth.

The removal of 'Bado Badi' has reignited debates on copyright issues and artistic expression in the digital age. Despite the controversy, Khan's unconventional music continues to engage audiences, and his presence in the entertainment industry remains strong.

Pakistani musician Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, known for his humorous videos and lighthearted singing, recently found himself at the center of controversy. Khan's rendition of the classic song 'Bado Badi' by Noor Jehan quickly went viral, amassing 26 million views in just one month, surpassing Zafar Ali’s hit 'Balo Batian'. However, Wajdan Rao, the female model featured in the music video, has accused Khan of severe underpayment and harassment.

Rao revealed in a media interview that she was paid a mere 4,000 rupees for her role in the video, while Khan reportedly earned 7 million rupees from the song's success. She also claimed that an offensive old photograph of her was deliberately included in the video to intimidate her from pursuing her legal claim for fair payment.

Rao called for public support and warned that Khan would be responsible if anything happened to her or her family. Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, whose real name is Kashif Rana, rose to fame on social media, especially during the lockdown period with his viral songs like "Tun Tuna Tun," "Mast Mast Sharabi," and "Pehli Wari Aj Ohno."

The controversy has sparked discussions about fair treatment and payment in the entertainment industry, highlighting the often overlooked issues faced by models and supporting artists in music videos.
