The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has reduced fuel prices significantly, including:
Petrol: Rs. 20 per litre
Diesel/Kerosene: Rs. 30 per litre
LPG: Rs. 100 per cylinder
Domestic aviation fuel: Rs. 40 per litre
Following the price cut, many private petrol pumps closed temporarily, claiming they had no petrol. This caused long queues at the pumps that remained open.
However, Nepal Oil Corporation says there is enough fuel in stock. According to NOC, some dealers allegedly delayed collecting or selling fuel after learning about the price reduction, creating an artificial shortage to avoid losses on higher-priced inventory. NOC says it has begun monitoring pumps and may take action against those refusing to sell fuel despite having supply.
In simple terms:
❌ There is no official announcement of a nationwide fuel shortage.
✅ The government says fuel is available.
⚠️ Some pumps appear to have stopped sales temporarily, reportedly because the sudden price cut could cause financial losses on fuel they had purchased at the old, higher price. NOC disputes that this justifies refusing to sell and says it is investigating.
Many people are understandably frustrated because when fuel prices increase, higher prices often take effect immediately, but when prices fall, supply disruptions or pump closures can make it difficult for consumers to benefit from the reduction right away.
