South Asia Journalists Federation Condemns Recent Attacks on Journalists and Media Houses in Nepal
Kathmandu – September 13, 2025: The South Asia Journalists Federation (SJF) has strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence targeting journalists and media organizations in Nepal. In an official statement released on Saturday, SJF expressed deep concern over the growing threats and attacks against members of the press, calling it a direct assault on press freedom and democratic values.
According to reports, several journalists and media outlets across Nepal have faced harassment, intimidation, and physical attacks in recent days. The federation described these acts as “unacceptable and alarming,” warning that such violence undermines the fundamental right to free expression and the safety of those working in the media sector.
“The attacks on journalists and media institutions are not just an attack on individuals, but an attack on democracy itself,” the SJF said in its statement. The organization urged the Government of Nepal to immediately investigate the incidents, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure the protection of journalists across the country.
SJF also called on political parties, civil society, and the international community to stand in solidarity with Nepalese journalists and to pressure authorities to guarantee a safe working environment for media professionals.
Media rights groups in Nepal have echoed the federation’s concerns, warning that increasing hostility toward the press could have a chilling effect on independent journalism. The SJF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepalese journalists and vowed to continue monitoring the situation closely.
