A POV video captures the terrifying force of the Bhotekoshi flood from inside the now-famous green house that miraculously survived the disaster. As floodwaters carrying mud, rocks and debris surged through the area, the family trapped inside watched from the upper floor as the lower level was inundated and surrounding structures were swept away. The house shook violently under the force of the water, leaving the family fearing they might not survive.

The house, which gained widespread attention after surviving the devastating flood, became known online as the “miracle house.” The family was eventually rescued by neighbours who risked their lives to reach them using a makeshift bridge. Engineers later suggested that the house’s concrete-and-steel construction, its foundation on rock and a small headland that shielded it from the main river current may have helped it withstand the flood. The footage offers a rare first-person view of the disaster’s devastating impact from a home at the heart of the destruction.

Nepali kickboxer Abiral Ghimire, popularly known as the “Himalayan Cheetah,” has been crowned world champion after defeating reigning French champion Mathon Choinard at the Hit Kick Boxing–59th International Sports Kick Boxing Federation (ISKF) World Championship in Nagoya, Japan. Competing in the main event at Kariya Hall on Saturday, Ghimire stopped Choinard with a powerful punch in the second minute of the second round. Choinard had held the world title since 2025, making the victory a significant milestone for Nepali kickboxing.

The win takes Ghimire’s international record to 21 victories from 29 bouts, with 20 of those wins coming by knockout. Ghimire has established himself as one of Nepal’s leading kickboxers on the international stage, earning recognition for his performances under the “Himalayan Cheetah” nickname. Following his victory, he also expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the recent Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa and said he was committed to supporting the victims.

Green Army Nepal has rejected reports and social media posts claiming that the organization has been dissolved, describing the claims as baseless, misleading and unverified. In a statement issued Sunday, the organization said such reports were circulated without verifying its legal status and official records, creating confusion among its students, youths, trainers, parents and well-wishers. Founder and chief Sabin Sharma said the organization remains active as a social organization engaged in environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, rescue and relief, sanitation, tree plantation, leadership development, first aid and school-level programs.

Green Army Nepal urged media outlets and the public to rely only on verified information from its office and concerned government authorities, stressing that an organization’s dissolution can only be established through an official decision and relevant records. It also appealed to media organizations that had published inaccurate reports to verify the facts and make necessary corrections, while urging students, parents, schools, youths and well-wishers not to rely on unverified claims circulating on social media.

The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly endorsed a resolution encouraging the use of world map projections that more accurately represent the relative size of continents. The “Correct the Map” initiative, led by Togo on behalf of the African group, passed 164 votes to one, with six countries—Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine—abstaining. The resolution promotes equal-area projections such as Equal Earth, while allowing continued use of the widely used Mercator projection and stressing that no flat map can perfectly represent the Earth’s curved surface.

The campaign highlights concerns that the 16th-century Mercator projection significantly exaggerates the size of regions farther from the Equator, making Africa appear much smaller than it actually is; Africa is roughly 14 times larger than Greenland. The United States was the only country to vote against the resolution, calling it part of a broader ideological agenda, while the African Union welcomed the move as a step toward more accurate and equitable global representation. The resolution is nonbinding and does not mandate governments, schools or technology companies to replace Mercator.

Dhulikhel Hospital has announced free health services for one year to family members affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood on Bhadra 10. The hospital expressed condolences to affected families and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting their health, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.

The Nepali Army has begun installing a 60-metre Acrow Bridge over the Tadi River at Devighat in Bidur, Nuwakot, after the existing concrete bridge was swept away by the devastating Bhote Koshi floods on August 26. The temporary bridge is being installed on the foundation of the damaged structure, with the Army supplying the required materials and carrying out the construction to restore vital connectivity in the flood-affected area.

The move comes as the government steps up efforts to restore infrastructure damaged by the floods. Authorities have launched an urgent repair drive for 20 of the 53 suspension bridges damaged between Muglin and Timure, out of 64 bridges assessed in the affected corridor. Repair work on five bridges, including Mahesh Dobhan–Mastar and Kalikathan, has already progressed, with the government aiming to complete them within a month.

The government has launched an urgent repair drive for 20 suspension bridges damaged by the Bhote Koshi River floods in Rasuwa, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The August 26 floods damaged 53 of the 64 suspension bridges between Muglin and Timure, with a government assessment identifying 20 bridges requiring immediate repairs. Work has already progressed on five bridges, including Mahesh Dobhan–Mastar and Kalikathan, which the government expects to complete within a month.

Meanwhile, the government has also begun the process to rebuild 33 bridges requiring reconstruction, issuing tenders on September 3. Authorities say the repair and reconstruction efforts are being carried out on an urgent basis to restore connectivity in the flood-affected areas.

Rescue teams have found two people alive and recovered the body of another person from the tunnel of the flood-hit Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established. The two survivors, Nepal Electricity Authority mechanical foreman Sanjay Sah and supervisor Kabir Maharjan, are receiving treatment at the Nepal Army Hospital in Kathmandu and are reported to be in normal condition.

Although the NEA had estimated that 42 engineers and employees were trapped inside the project’s powerhouse, the search teams found no one else inside.A joint team of the Armed Police Force and Nepali Army reached the farthest sections of the tunnel, which were heavily covered with mud, sludge, rocks and debris, but found no other survivors or heard any voices. Authorities are now assessing the site before deciding whether to formally conclude the rescue operation.

The United Nations and its humanitarian partners have launched a $49.6 million emergency appeal to support more than 84,000 people affected by the catastrophic floods in Nepal. The floods, triggered after a glacier collapsed along the Nepal–Tibet border on August 26, have claimed more than 1,250 lives, with thousands still missing, according to the UN. Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading have suffered extensive damage to roads, schools, power networks and water systems, leaving many families without homes or livelihoods. The relief plan will provide cash assistance, emergency shelters, food, clean water, healthcare, solar power units and support to protect livestock as communities prepare for the approaching winter.

Meanwhile, UNICEF and other humanitarian agencies have intensified relief operations, with an EU-supported flight delivering 84 metric tonnes of humanitarian supplies to Kathmandu. UNICEF is preparing to distribute water tanks, hygiene and water-treatment supplies, diarrhoea treatment kits, winter clothing and educational materials, while also supporting child-friendly spaces and disease-prevention efforts in affected communities. The UN said the appeal aims to reach the hardest-hit and most remote families with essential assistance, as the scale of destruction continues to create significant humanitarian needs.
