Faces of: RED Nepal

In many cultures, the color RED is reserved for Love, Strength, Power & Royalty.
But in , it is ever present.
You’ll find this breathtaking hue thickly pressed on the foreheads of locals as a religious blessing.
Painted on ancient wooden homes.
Temporarily Stained on women lips.
It's the color of hundreds of spices that fill the air with exotic aromas.
And it dominates many of the delicate fabrics worn by stylish, young & old sun-kissed Nepalis.

Walk the streets of Kathmandu. when the sunset bathes the city in gold at dusk,
the striking reds will be a feast for your eyes.

Hi everyone and thank you for being here.
While we've been a bit quiet on social media, we are being very active behind the scenes !!!

We have decided to produce a short documentary-film series and are currently editing some really cool material from Nepal.
------
The first episode will focus on the growing underground
art-scene in Kathmandu.
It features interviews with artists, explores new locations and looks at the city from a new point of view.
------
For a little pre-taste we will start to publish a few stills from the movie here and on our website.

Check them out and tell us what you think !

Wow, Kathmandu, what an adventure.
We are so busy that we are always days behind with sharing our experiences. (@ www.arternativeways.com )
It is only when our friends back home are asking us what we are doing, whether we have started
filming and/or whether we have found any interesting artists or communities, that we realise how much time has actually passed.

The answer to all of these questions is YES.
_________________________________________________________________

There are so many open-minded,successful and interesting artist communities everywhere,
that we feel almost stupid for ever having doubted that fact.

Here is a little write up of one of the first events we went to in Kathmandu. (@ www.arternativeways.com )
It is the EP release event of the multimedia artist Phatcowleee.
He is part of the growing Nepali underground art and music scene which is a really beautiful thing to witness.
You can feel a true momentum here.
A unique potential that is almost contagious.
To understand what it feels like to in/outside observers like us, read the article

A face can tell a thousand stories.
_____________________________________

More than 100 different ethnic groups live
in Kathmandu, while there are almost 200 in all of Nepal.

It is impossible not to be awestruck by this complex society, with it's mesh of interwoven religions and casts, traditions and beliefs.

All we can do is to gaze in wonder and share a few glimpses with you.

Hi everybody.
we finally made it to Kathmandu !
What a beautiful start of the next few month of traveling to connect creative communities.
We got here only 2 days ago and are already completely in awe.
The colours, the smells and the sounds make the city feel like a different universe.
The crazy streets of the 2000 year old capital of Nepal are buzzing with life.
Kathmandu feels like a giant, colourful anthill.
In the first 48 hours here, we’ve already met more talented people than we can remember. There were young poets ( Shrestha, Bhattara ). Entrepreneurs that build art-hotels and schools (Shantipur Kathmandu Hotel). Musicians Astha Raut. Young locals writers, building start-ups with a purpose (Ashish Katwal). Entire organisations, dedicated to the art of public speaking Presenters' Club and of course poetry Spoken Word Nepal.
All of that in only the first two days.
And we have so much more planned out.
We will meet the organisers of photography festivals and jam sessions. Electronic music producers, graffiti-artists, more spoken word poets, filmmakers, educators and who knows who else!
This crazy journey has only just begun, but we already feel at home.
It is reassuring to see how many visionary minds there are everywhere in the world.
We cannot wait to connect with you all and work on creating the future together.
We will be here for a month before moving on to india.
We’re then planing to go to Iran, Turkey and Europe.
Thank you for the warm welcome Kathmandu.
