Mourning Student Appears for Exams

Divas Bik, a student in mourning (Kriyaputri), is taking part in the Grade 8 basic level examination, which began on March 21 in Gaindakot Municipality, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East).

A student of Nepal Rastriya Shamsher Secondary School, located in Gaindakot-1, Bik is appearing for the exams from the examination center at Janak Namuna Secondary School in Gaindakot-5.

A Japanese court has ordered compensation of 217 million yen for an 89-year-old man who was acquitted 56 years after being sentenced to death.

In 1966, Iwao Hakamada was accused of murdering four members of a family. He was convicted in 1968 and placed on death row.

After a retrial, he was finally acquitted last year.

Agreeing with Hakamada's claim of having suffered "severe mental and physical distress," a judge ordered the government to compensate him.

According to Japanese media, this is the highest amount of compensation ever awarded in a criminal case in Japan.

Legends and Religious Traditions of the Holi Festival....
[ According to mythology, during the Treta Yuga, Lord Rama and Sita played with colors and abir (colored powder) in the Kanchan forest. Based on this belief, devotees consider this as the religious origin of the Holi festival.

Another legend narrates the story of Hiranyakashipu, who ordered his sister Holika to enter a blazing fire with his son, Prahlad. While Holika was burned to ashes, the devoted Prahlad emerged unscathed, as mentioned in the Puranas.

According to Hindu traditions, young Krishna once playfully smeared color on Radha's face, which led to a joyous chase and laughter. This playful act became a popular custom, eventually evolving into the Holi festival. Another folklore links Holi to the devotion of Prahlad, symbolizing the victory of truth over falsehood.

Originally celebrated as the Vasantotsav (Spring Festival) in ancient times, this festival later became associated with various legends of Prahlad, Krishna, Holika, and Dhunda. Over time, it came to be known by different names such as Phagu, Phaguwa, Holi, and Hori. Today, Holi is observed as a festival symbolizing the triumph of truth over lies and as an occasion for familial and social unity. ]

hangu Narayan Temple, one of Nepal's famous pilgrimage sites, is located in Changunarayan Municipality of Bhaktapur district. This ancient site also houses an archaeological stone pillar of great historical significance.

Not only from a historical, artistic, and religious perspective but also as a major tourist attraction, this temple holds immense importance. It was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1969.
