Don't Take This South Philly Shortcut at Night 😳

I went exploring near the South Philly Target and stumbled onto a literal off-the-map shortcut

Tucked away off Mifflin Street, there is this completely unpaved dirt path that won't even show up on GPS or Google Maps. I was a little hesitant to take it at first because it looks pretty sketchy and disconnected from the rest of the city, but after seeing a few other locals using it, I realized it is the ultimate shortcut if you are trying to get from the Walmart over to Target or the bus stops without walking all the way around

The coolest part? This hidden route runs right over a set of old, decommissioned railroad tracks that are just getting swallowed up by the earth. After doing a little digging, I found out this waterfront area used to be massive industrial shipyards, and these tracks are old freight lines that used to carry cargo directly off the ships. Now, it's just a raw, unmapped piece of history that locals use to cut across town

It is crazy to find an abandoned piece of the city hiding right next to a modern shopping center

Before the true-crime comments start rolling in: no, this isn't where those crazy train track cases happened! I know this path looks sketchy, but the notorious stuff (like the 2013 North Philly dismemberment, the recent 2025 cold case dig, or the Port Richmond case) all happened miles away in entirely different neighborhoods. The only real "drama" down this specific South Philly stretch is just the illegal trash dumping you see in the video, and some local issues with people messing with the feral cat colonies by the old piers. Sketchy vibes? Yes. Serial killers? Thankfully, no

And before anyone types "clickbait" about the title Bro, there are zero streetlights, it's completely off the grid, isolated from the main roads, and it's covered in hidden metal train tracks and trash that you could easily trip over. It is objectively a terrible and sketchy place to walk in the dark. If you want to walk this at 2 AM, be my guest! 😅
