The Nepal Government has officially banned Telegram from July 18, 2025, due to a sharp rise in online fraud, scam investments, and financial crimes conducted via the app. Over 600 complaints were reported in the past year alone. The ban was enforced by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) across all internet service providers.

Telegram responded, saying it has cooperated with Nepali authorities and was surprised by the ban. Users are now turning to WhatsApp and Signal as alternatives.
