The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has directed its member helicopter companies to keep aircraft on standby for possible rescue and emergency operations as heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast across Nepal. The association issued a circular on Wednesday, urging helicopter operators to remain prepared for possible floods, landslides and other weather-related disasters. Operators have also been asked to exercise extra caution while conducting flights. AOAN has nine member helicopter companies, while Simrik Air was also included in the standby arrangement. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, the operators have a combined fleet of 33 helicopters.
Passenger airlines including Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines, Tara Air, Summit Air and Sita Air have also been urged to exercise caution amid forecasts of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, particularly in Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
