यस वर्ष हामी अमेरिकी विदेश सेवाको १०० औं वर्ष मनाउँदैछौं! अमेरिकाले १७७६ देखि सबै देशहरूसँग आफ्नो साझेदारी सुदृढ गर्न कूटनीतिज्ञहरूलाई पटाउँदै आएको छ। अहिलेसम्म अमेरिकी विदेश मन्त्रालयले संसारभर २७९ पदहरूमा १४,००० भन्दा बढी अधिकारीहरू पठाएको छ।
के तपाईँलाई थाहा छ? सन् १९४७ २२ मार्चमा नेपालमा पहिलो विशेष कूटनीतिक नियोग स्थापना गर्ने र प्रतिनिधि पठाउने घोषणा गरिएको थियो। तत्कालीन राष्ट्रपतिका निजी प्रतिनिधि जोसेफ सी सटरथवेट अप्रिल १३ मा काठमाडौँ आइपुगेका थिए। त्यही साल २५ अप्रिलमा ७७ वर्षअघि अमेरिका र नेपाल बिचको साझेदारी सुरु भएको थियो!

? On March 22, 1947, the U.S. Department of State announced the dispatch of the first special diplomatic mission to Nepal. Joseph C. Satterthwaite, Personal Representative of the then President, arrived in Kathmandu on April 13. It was 77 years ago, on April 25, 1947, that the United States and Nepal began their long-standing partnership!
