Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma has been appointed as the 33rd Chief Justice of Nepal after unanimous approval from the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. He was appointed by President Ram Chandra Paudel and took the oath of office immediately. According to Article 129(4) of the Constitution, his tenure will last for about six years, until 2089 BS.

Upon assuming office, he emphasized that he will not compromise on the independence of the judiciary and will ensure fairness, institutional integrity, and non-interference in judicial processes. His appointment comes in the context of past concerns about the balance of power between the executive and judiciary in Nepal.
