The 14th belt test of the IKO Kyokushinkai Karate Dojo in Nakhipot, Lalitpur, was successfully completed. Head instructor Sensei Sameer Shrestha said 34 junior players who train regularly at the dojo appeared for the test on Saturday.

The belt test was held on Friday and Saturday, supervised by Sensei Samir Shrestha, Sensei Uttam Sthapit, and assistant instructor Amit Chalan Lama. Among the participants, 2 tested for brown belt, 3 for senior green belt, 2 for green belt, 6 for yellow belt, 14 for blue belt, and 7 for orange belt.

Branch Chief Sensei Deepak Lama said the belt test helps identify each player’s skill level and prepares them for national and international competitions. He added that the test also gives players confidence and knowledge about their abilities according to their belt level.

Sensei Samir Shrestha emphasized that only players who train hard and follow discipline are allowed to take the belt test. Players must attend at least 60 days of training and complete written, basic (kihon), step, kata, and kumite exams. Those who do not perform well are not allowed to take the test. Belt tests are held every three to four months.

The IKO Kyokushinkai Karate Dojo in Nepal operates under the Sweden-based Honbu International Karate Organization Kyokushinkai. The dojo provides a space for players to show their talent and gives them chances to participate in national and international competitions, helping them improve their skills.

When K-1 Kickboxing was created in the 1990s, one martial art stood out above the rest – Kyokushin Karate. Known as the “strongest karate,” it produced warriors who dominated both in the dojo and the ring.

🇨🇭 Andy Hug, 🇧🇷 Francisco Filho, 🇧🇷 Glaube Feitosa, 🇳🇱 Semmy Schilt, and many others carried the Kyokushin spirit into K-1, defeating legends and becoming champions.
• Andy Hug – 1996 K-1 World Grand Prix Champion
• Francisco Filho – 1999 Kyokushin World Champion, later defeating Peter Aerts in K-1
• Semmy Schilt – 3-time K-1 World Grand Prix Champion
• Glaube Feitosa – famous for his “Brazilian Kick,” twice a K-1 finalist

👉 Their success proved that the discipline, toughness, and OSU spirit of Kyokushin could dominate even in the world’s biggest striking stage.

This documentary on Francisco Filho shows just one part of that legacy – how Kyokushin fighters shaped the history of K-1 and inspired generations worldwide. ✊

Back in the '90s, with a picturesque swing of his leg, Francisco Filho became the first non-Japanese Kyokushin karate world champion. Later, storming into th...
