Life is slowly finding its pace again. Soon, a new Prime Minister will be announced—possibly Nepal’s first woman leader, if the news is to be believed. Hope it brings a quiet sense of hope, change, and renewal for the country.

A Treasure Trove : Thrilled to receive photos from the recent SAAN event at Nepal Army Headquarters, where I had the great honor of being recognized by none other than the Honorable Nepalese Army Commander-in-Chief, Ashok Raj Sigdel—my former student at Suping Campus. What a rare joy to witness how the seeds sown in the classroom can blossom into such inspiring leadership and service to the nation.

My heartfelt thanks also to the distinguished historian and professor Kamal Raj Singh Rathaur, whose presence and scholarship continue to enrich our cultural and historical understanding, and to Brigadier General Sudarshan Bikram Rana (Retd.) for his gracious support and friendship.

Truly, these moments are a treasure trove of memories—reminders of the enduring bonds between teacher and student, history and service, memory and gratitude.

We are delighted to welcome Australian poet, critic, and editor Jennifer Mackenzie to the 2026 Himalayan Literature Festival and Writers Workshop in Kathmandu. A distinguished voice in contemporary poetry and criticism, Mackenzie is widely recognized for her sustained engagement with literature from and about Asia. Her incisive reviews and essays have made her a leading commentator on the region’s literary landscapes.
She has presented her work at numerous international conferences and literary festivals, most recently at the Mathrubhumi Festival of Literary Arts in Trivandrum and the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival (UWRF) in Bali.
Mackenzie first came to wide attention with her acclaimed long poem Borobudur (Transit Lounge, 2009), a meditation on the great Buddhist monument, which was later republished by the Lontar Foundation in Jakarta (2012). Since then, her work has deepened its dialogue with Indonesia and its writers. Her collection Navigable Ink (Transit Lounge, 2020), written as an homage to the legendary Indonesian novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer, received high praise for its lyrical power and historical resonance. Most recently, she has released The Wallace Line: A Poem (Transit Lounge, 2024), a compelling new work that continues her exploration of the intersections of geography, culture, and history in Southeast Asia.
Jennifer Mackenzie’s presence at the festival promises to enrich conversations on poetry, criticism, and the transnational currents shaping contemporary literature.
