We are thrilled to welcome Luís Filipe Sarmento to 2026 Himalayan Literature Festival in Kathmandu !
Born in Lisbon in 1956, Sarmento is one of Portugal’s most dynamic literary voices—writer, journalist, translator, filmmaker, and teacher of Writing, Modernisms, and Aesthetics. His work has been translated into 20+ languages, and he pioneered Portugal’s first Videobook for RTP’s Acontece.
A longtime leader in global literary organizations, he has served with the World Poetry Movement, P.E.N. Club, Organization Mondial de Poétes, and the Ibero-American Writers’ Association.
His acclaimed career has earned major honors, including the Balsa de Piedra Prize, Cesar Vallejo International Prize, Ulysses Literary Prize, and Clarice Lispector Literature Prize.
Author of 36 books—from The Age of Fire (1975) to Acid (2024) and The Boy with the Elephant (2025)—Sarmento continues to shape contemporary world literature.
