Jim Morrison Makes History: First Ever Ski Descent of Everest’s North Face Hornbein Couloir

In one of the most daring acts ever witnessed on Mount Everest, American mountaineer and skier Jim Morrison has completed an extraordinary descent — skiing down the Hornbein Couloir on Everest’s North Face, a feat no human had ever accomplished before.

After reaching the summit, Morrison paused to honor his late partner and fellow ski-mountaineer Hilaree Nelson, scattering her ashes into the thin Himalayan air — a deeply emotional moment that gave meaning to his climb. From there, he began a heart-stopping descent of over 3,600 meters, navigating sheer ice, exposed rock, and unpredictable snow conditions.

Every turn of his skis carried both grief and courage — transforming loss into legacy. His successful descent marks not only a milestone in high-altitude skiing but also a moving tribute to love, resilience, and the spirit of the mountains.

History has been made once again on the slopes of Everest.

Today, we bid farewell to a true legend.

Kancha Sherpa — the last living survivor of the historic 1953 Everest Expedition that forever changed the world of mountaineering — has passed away.

He was among the few who supported Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa on their journey to the top of the world. His story was one of courage, humility, and quiet strength — the true essence of the Sherpa spirit.

May his soul rest in peace.
His footsteps will remain forever etched in the snow of Sagarmatha.

RIP Kancha Sherpa 🙏

Nepali guides’ Himalayan ascents nominated for Piolets d’Or 2024

Three Nepali climbers — Vinayak Jaya Malla, Pasang Kami Sherpa, and Pasang Rinzee Sherpa — have been nominated for the prestigious Piolets d’Or 2024 for their bold first ascent of Patrasi I (6,450m) via the Northwest Ridge over Patrasi II in the remote Kanjiroba Himal.

Their alpine-style climb, completed without fixed ropes or prior support, stands as a testament to the strength, skill, and spirit of Nepali alpinism.

Eight Women from Six Nations Reach Yalung Ri Summit After Ramdung Plan Abandoned

With the aim of promoting women’s participation in mountaineering, eight climbers from six countries together stood at the 5,630 m peak of Yalung Ri on Wednesday morning. They had planned to climb Ramdung (5,930 m), but heavy snowfall forced them to change course. Led by American guide Danika Gilbert and supported by Sherpas Pasang Kidar and Mingma Chhiri, the team—representing Nepal, the US, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan—began the final push from 1 a.m. and summited at 8:02 a.m. despite challenges.

Carlos Soria, 86, Summits Manaslu – Oldest Ever on the Peak

Spanish mountaineer has fulfilled a dream 50 years in the making by successfully reaching the summit of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) at the age of 86. With this achievement, he becomes the oldest climber in history to stand atop Manaslu, proving once again that age is no barrier to passion and perseverance.

Soria first attempted Manaslu in 1975 as part of the pioneering Spanish expedition that made the country’s first ascent of the mountain, but he did not reach the summit then. Half a century later, he has finally closed that chapter, marking a historic milestone in his extraordinary career.

Supported by Mikel Sherpa(.86 ), Nima Sherpa, Phurba Sherpa, Luis M. Soriano, and the team, this climb stands as a powerful reminder of his philosophy: “To climb, you have to go.”

With his unwavering determination, Carlos Soria continues to inspire climbers and dreamers across the globe, showing that true passion knows no age.

Tyler Andrews Returns to Everest – Speed Record Attempt, Fall 2025

American ultrarunner Tyler Andrews is heading back to Everest this October for a bold mission: a solo speed record attempt from Base Camp to the summit — without supplemental oxygen or Sherpa support.

Climbing Everest in the fall presents far greater challenges than spring, with heavier snow and fewer stable weather windows. But with only about a dozen climbers on the mountain, Andrews hopes the lack of crowds will give him a clear shot.

This will be his fourth Everest speed attempt, after three efforts last spring were turned back by gear issues, bad conditions, and fatigue. His goal: break the no-oxygen speed record of 20h 24m, set in 1998 by Kazi Sherpa.

“This project is about pushing my own limits while raising funds for youth athletic programs in Nepal and Ecuador,” Andrews said.
