On the 21st May 1986 Flying Fish NZ Ltd was registered at the NZ Companies Office.

We turned 40 Today!

For four decades, Flying Fish has been driven by iconic storytelling, creativity and world-class production.
From Vivian Street in Wellington, to Soho in London, to Sydney, Australia and now hanging our hat on Ponsonby Road, our journey has been shaped by visionary directors, brave clients, incredibly talented crews and deeply collaborative agency partnerships.

We are immensely proud of the work we’ve brought to life from script to screen, and grateful for every opportunity we’ve had to work alongside some of the most creative minds locally and around the world.

To everyone who has been part of this story - thank you.

Forty years in, we’re certainly not done yet. The story continues, and we’re excited for the next chapter as we keep creating, evolving, and bringing you along with us for the ride.

⁣A strong catch for the Fish Family: Charlotte Evans joins the Fish director roster for New Zealand representation 🎣⠀

Charlotte brings a bold, collaborative energy and a visually expressive voice to both commercial and long-form storytelling, crafting work that feels contemporary, cultural and emotionally alive.⠀

“Having another distinctive and provocative female director to bring into the fold is incredibly exciting for us. Charlotte brings a rare combination of experience, instinct, and genuine curiosity to her work, and her passion for mining real truths within storytelling is something very special. She has a way of uncovering authentic human moments and translating them into work that feels both emotionally honest and visually compelling, which is exactly the kind of voice we’re proud to champion.”⠀
Sam Attenborough, Executive Producer

A week on, you are now laid to rest and we’ve found our words.

Our hearts are heavy but full of immense gratitude for having had Lee in our lives.

Founding Flying Fish forty years ago, we all feel indebted to his legacy and an overwhelming gratefulness to have been in his shadow.

Lee was a passionate collaborator, a dedicated professional, always keen to teach and nurture the next generation and for that we are all thankful and so proud.

Thank you for the path you’ve laid for all of us at Flying Fish and the wider film community.

RIP Lee Tamahori 1950 – 2025
