There was plenty to celebrate at the Safeguard New Zealand Health & Safety Awards earlier this week.

It was inspiring to hear about the incredible mahi taking place across industries around Aotearoa and to join in celebrating those recognised for their outstanding contributions to health, safety and wellbeing.

NZISM members were particularly well represented in the individual award categories. Alongside Jessie Bourke being named NZISM Practitioner of the Year, two other NZISM members received well-deserved recognition:

🏆 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄 (NZISM Wellington Branch) – edenfx Emerging Practitioner 2026
🏆 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘂𝘀 (NZISM Manawatu Branch) – Thomson Reuters Mental Health Champion 2026

Annalise was recognised for her outstanding work in developing a successful Lunch & Learn programme focused on critical risks, which was subsequently adopted by Health & Safety Advisors across Downer. She has also been selected for Downer's Thrive Women's Leadership Programme.

Trina was acknowledged for the significant contribution she has made to strengthening wellbeing capability within FMG, helping build a shared language around mental health and fostering a culture where conversations about wellbeing are normalised and encouraged.

At NZISM, we're incredibly proud of the dedication, expertise and impact our members bring to workplaces across New Zealand every day. It is wonderful to see just a few of the many success stories within our profession recognised on a national stage.

Congratulations, Annalise and Trina. We're proud of you and all that you've achieved. 👏

🎉 Congratulations to Jessie Bourke – NZISM Practitioner of the Year 2026! 🎉

As proud sponsors of the NZISM Practitioner of the Year category we were delighted to see Jessie Bourke of Nāti Growth recognised for all she has achieved.

Jessie is not only an outstanding health and safety professional, but also a valued member of the NZISM community, serving as our Gisborne Branch Manager. We have been privileged to support her professional growth over the years and have seen first-hand the passion, leadership and commitment she brings to the profession.

In her role at Nāti Growth, Jessie has played a pivotal role in strengthening health, safety, wellbeing and environmental practices across a diverse range of operations. Her people-centred approach, combined with a genuine commitment to understanding work as it is actually done, has helped create practical, meaningful improvements for both workers and business outcomes.

The award also recognises Jessie's commitment to empowering others. Beyond the workplace, she has championed opportunities for wāhine in forestry and helped build capability and leadership across the health and safety profession.

Congratulations, Jessie. Your NZISM whānau is incredibly proud of you and this outstanding achievement. 👏🏆

The government is trying to rush through a new law that will make Kiwis less safe.

If passed, it will mean workers at 97% of businesses will lose fundamental protections.

Please SHARE this graphic, and help us get the word out:

This unsafe Bill must be stopped.

15/06/2026

Everyone should be able to return from work safely. That's why, today, we're launching a new campaign alongside Stand With Pike.

Sonya and Anna have fought tirelessly for lessons to be learned from Pike River. Government after government have said they’ve heard them.

But now, this government is rushing the unsafe Health and Safety at Work Amendment Bill through Parliament. If passed, it would mean that workers at 97% of Kiwi businesses will lose fundamental protections.

If we don't stop this Bill, more Kiwi families will suffer the devastating impact of injury - or worse - at work.
