A National State of Emergency has been declared today in New Zealand to assist in the response to Cyclone Gabrielle.

The declaration will apply to the six regions: Northland, Auckland, Tairāwhiti, Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and Hawkes Bay.

It is the third time in NZ history that a National State of Emergency has been declared.

Avoid unnecessary travel. Stay home and stay safe.

These non-essential services will be closed from 3pm today and resume at 9am tomorrow due to heavy rainfall that is expected today evening.

These services include:

- Auckland libraries
- Auckland Botanic Gardens
- Auckland Regional Parks
- Cemetery Offices
- Community Venues
- Pools and Leisure Centres

The essential services will continue to operate as normal, including contact centres, operational frontline teams, and and those that are responding to storm relief efforts.

Sadly 2 people have been reported dead in Auckland due to the floods. While 2 others are missing as police announced this morning.

The 2 people who died were found in floodwaters in Wairau Valley on the North Shore.

Police continue to urge people to not drive today unless very necessary. Stay home and stay safe.

Our thoughts are with the families of those two people who have died.

Auckland Transport (AT) announced on Twitter that it is redirecting special event buses to get people from Sir Elton John’s farewell concert at Mt Smart Stadium to their homes due to the last minute concert cancellation because of the heavy rain.

A child has been critically injured due to a house fire that happened this morning at around 10:40 in Auckland’s Point Chevalier.

The child is badly burnt and has been taken to Starship Hospital.

Grey smoke could also be seen from the Northwestern Motorway.

One person has been seriously injured after an aggravated robbery that occurred at Rose Cottage Superette in Sandringham.

The person who has been injured is a worker at the dairy and has been rushed to the hospital.

One person has died and three other people are seriously injured with stab wounds and gunshot after an incident that happened last night in East Tamaki.

The three people are currently in Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

Police confirmed that the incident occurred around 4:30am in a carpark at Lady Fisher Place in the Highbrook Drive area.

Armed police are in a scene in central Auckland responding to a ‘serious incident’.

Around 14 police vehicles are at the scene and police officers are searching a building nearby. The police eagle helicopter is also in the area.

The incident is causing a traffic disruption and motorists are advised to delay travel.

A woman has been taken to Middlemore Hospital after being run over by a car earlier today.

The woman had been sitting on a moving car’s bonnet, when she slid off and was run over by the vehicle.

She is in a serious but stable condition in the hospital.

The woman was with Rugby League World Cup fans celebrating the tournament in the UK.
