We’ve just discovered something in DaVinci Resolve that we think is seriously cool.

We downloaded the Blackmagic Remote Monitoring app onto a phone (Android), signed in, and used a laptop to remotely open a Resolve project at The Sugarworks Postproduction, all from the comfort of our home.

We could then give access to the Resolve timeline and watch the edit on the phone.

THE PHONE... 😂

Below, a little screen recording below so you can see exactly what we mean.

For anyone working in post-production, this is a really useful feature. You can remotely monitor an edit without needing to be physically in the edit suite — which opens up some great possibilities for working between locations, checking progress, or letting collaborators view the timeline remotely.

We're still playing around with it, but we can already see plenty of uses for it.

Remote post-production just got a little more interesting, don't you think??

We've been experimenting with a Claude + DaVinci Resolve workflow to see how AI fits into real-world editing. Not because we think AI will replace editors, but because we want to understand where it genuinely adds value.

Getting Claude connected to Resolve was surprisingly easy—but only once we stopped trying to do it manually ourselves. Using a freely available MCP, Claude essentially connected itself after it eas asked to do so.

From there, we tested two very different editing scenarios.
The first involved a script with voice-over, grabs and music. While Claude identified the grabs without much trouble, the rest quickly became a tangled mess. We were simply asking too much in one go.

The second test was much more successful. Using raw footage and a straightforward client brief, Claude assembled a rough timeline and cut 24 minutes of footage down to around 3 minutes using surprisingly usable grabs. B-roll was a different matter though.

The biggest surprise? Speed.
So far, it's nothing like what people on social media would like you to believe.
The workflow was significantly slower than how a regular editor edits manually. From setting up a project, to importing footage and creating an assemble edit, it would have been faster for us to do it. That said, we are only at the beginning of this experiment.

As we continue training our models to build Resolve projects, import media and create stronger assembly edits, we expect the workflow to improve.

For now, though, we're not worried about AI taking our jobs.

What this experiment reinforced is that editing isn't just about assembling clips. It's about rhythm, emotion, storytelling, intuition and knowing why one cut works better than another.

AI is becoming an interesting assistant.
But it still has a long way to go before it replaces the human eye.
