Hello Travellers!

This video documents a relaxed and intentional start to my Bangkok trip, flying from Singapore Changi Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport after taking a half day leave to avoid rushing to the airport.

The journey begins at the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge Singapore (Terminal 3), where I take time to enjoy wholesome lounge offerings including dim sum, the signature laksa, and a wide selection of beverages. The lounge felt very spacious, comfortable, and well suited for unwinding before an evening departure. Highlights include the self service beer dispenser and wine dispenser, making the preflight experience calm and unhurried.

On board, I was seated at the last row of the aircraft, which turned out to be a great choice. There was plenty of legroom and the freedom to recline without worrying about passengers behind, making the short regional flight even more comfortable. The signature laksa was also served on board and tasted excellent, warm, comforting, and satisfying for an evening flight.

The flight duration was just under two hours, making it a smooth and efficient hop into Bangkok. We touched down safely in the evening, setting the tone for a relaxed city stay.

This video is part of my Bangkok travel series. Stay tuned for the upcoming room review at DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit, as well as the rest of the Bangkok vlog where I explore food, neighbourhoods, and everyday travel moments.

Flight Review: Singapore Airlines SQ720

Singapore to Bangkok, 12 December 2025

Route: Singapore Changi Airport SIN to Suvarnabhumi Airport BKK
Aircraft: Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner
Registration: 9V-SDA
Departure: Scheduled 18:35, Actual 19:26
Arrival: Scheduled 20:00, Actual 20:20
Block Time: 1 hour 55 minutes

Why SQ720 is a Sweet Spot for Weekend Bangkok Trips

SQ720 departs Singapore just after peak office hours, making it one of the most practical Friday or pre weekend flights for travellers who want to maximise time without taking leave. You can realistically leave work, head straight to Changi, and still land in Bangkok early enough for a late dinner or night market visit.

From a traveller efficiency standpoint, this flight hits a rare balance, post work departure, wide-body comfort, and a landing time that still allows you to start the holiday mood immediately.

Aircraft Choice: A Treat for Aviation Geeks

Operating on the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, SQ720 instantly stands out on a relatively short regional sector. Many airlines deploy narrow-body aircraft on this route, so getting the -10 variant feels like an intentional premium touch.

This particular airframe, 9V-SDA, is barely a year old, and it shows.

For aviation enthusiasts, the 787-10 offers:

- The longest fuselage in the Dreamliner family
- Engines with noticeably quieter spool up during takeoff
- Higher cabin humidity and lower cabin altitude, even on short hops
- Larger electro dimmable windows, a signature Boeing feature

Pushback and engine start were smooth, and taxiing out of Changi during the evening wave gave great apron views of multiple long haul departures.

Cabin Environment and Ride Quality

Despite the short sector, the Dreamliner cabin environment is immediately noticeable. Cabin noise levels are lower than the A320 family, especially during climb, and turbulence absorption feels more refined due to the composite fuselage.

Takeoff from Changi’s runway was powerful but controlled, with the aircraft climbing quickly to cruising altitude. Once levelled, the flight felt remarkably stable for a sub two hour journey.

For frequent flyers who do this route often, the Dreamliner makes a real difference in fatigue levels, even if subconsciously.

Timing, Air Traffic, and Performance

This evening departure sits right within Southeast Asia’s busy night wave, so a slight delay at departure was expected and understandable. Once airborne, the flight made up time efficiently, landing only about 20 minutes behind schedule.

From a performance standpoint, the 787-10 is slightly over capable for this route, which works in the passenger’s favour. The aircraft does not feel rushed, climb rates are healthy, and descent into Bangkok was smooth despite evening traffic congestion.

Who This Flight Is Perfect For

This flight is ideal for:
- Aviation geeks who want to experience wide-body comfort on a short regional route
- After work travellers heading to Bangkok for a quick weekend getaway
- Couples or solo travellers who value a calmer cabin environment
- KrisFlyer members who appreciate consistent wide-body deployment on regional routes

If your goal is to leave Singapore after work on Friday and wake up Saturday morning already in Bangkok, SQ720 is almost perfectly timed.

Final Thoughts

SQ720 proves that a short flight does not have to feel short changed. With a modern Boeing 787-10, a post work friendly departure, and efficient arrival into Bangkok, this service quietly stands out among the many SIN–BKK options.

For aviation lovers, it is a technical joy.
For weekend travellers, it is a practical win.

A flight that does exactly what it promises, efficiently, comfortably, and with a touch of wide-body magic.
