Lionel Messi's much-hyped Kolkata leg of the G.O.A.T. Tour on Saturday turned out to be a chaotic experience for the thousands who came to watch the superstar at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan. The reason: they could not get a glimpse of the Argentine football great. Despite paying a hefty sum for the event, with tickets ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000, several fans claimed they could not even properly see the football legend. The presence of security personnel and other guests in close proximity to Messi meant that fans could not properly see him from the stands. The resulting anger, with chairs and bottles being thrown, forced the organisers to whisk Messi away.

| A fan of football icon voiced anger, saying, “Only leaders and actors were around Messi. Why were we even called? We paid ₹12,000 for tickets, yet we couldn’t even see his face.”

The disappointment among supporters soon escalated into chaos, as upset fans began throwing bottles and chairs from the stands at Salt Lake Stadium.

Remembering the Showman: Raj Kapoor 🎬✨

Today marks the birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor, one of the greatest and most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of Indian cinema.

Born to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Devi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor had an Arya Samaji upbringing. Due to his father’s traveling career, he attended several schools, including Colonel Brown Cambridge School in Dehradun, St. Xavier’s Collegiate School in Calcutta (now Kolkata), and Campion School in Bombay (now Mumbai). His formal education was cut short when he entered the film industry as a child actor.

Raj Kapoor married Krishna Malhotra on May 12, 1946, in a traditional arranged marriage. At the time, he was 22 and she was 16. Their union, which lasted a lifetime, produced five children: Randhir, Rishi, Rajiv, Ritu, and Rima.

As an actor, director, and producer, Raj Kapoor worked on dozens of films. He starred in classics like Awaara (1951) and Shree 420 (1955), directed acclaimed films such as Mera Naam Joker (1970) and Bobby (1973), and produced numerous hits. His career spanned from 1935, when he debuted as a child actor in Inquilab, to the late 1980s, leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Raj Kapoor’s genius lay in visionary filmmaking, blending social commentary with universal themes of love and the struggles of the common man. His iconic “tramp” persona, inspired by Charlie Chaplin, soulful music, and groundbreaking films like Awaara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker earned him the title “Showman of Indian Cinema.”

Today, we pay tribute to this legendary filmmaker whose work continues to inspire and touch audiences worldwide. 🌟
