Firefighters in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi on Sunday finally extinguished a blaze at a multistory shopping plaza after a nearly 24-hour-long effort. The fire left six people dead, including a firefighter, and dozens missing, officials said.

The fire broke out late Saturday at Gul Plaza, and spread rapidly through shops stocked with cosmetics, garments and plastic goods, according to Dr. Abid Jalal Sheikh, the city’s chief rescue officer.

The fire has been put out and now a search for dozens of missing people is underway, said Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister in the Sindh province of which Karachi is the capital. Earlier, authorities had said crews needed another four to six hours to bring the blaze fully under control.

Five bodies were recovered from the four-story building and its basement, which housed about 1,200 shops, Sheikh said. Rescue officials said a firefighter died while trying to extinguish flames on the upper floors. Meanwhile, families continued searching for missing relatives.

Television footage showed dozens of firefighters in protective gear as thick smoke billowed from the damaged building. Parts of the structure collapsed during the fire.

India/The autopsy report of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who lost his life after his car plunged into a deep water-filled pit in sector 150 of Greater Noida, confirmed that the techie died due asphyxiation. The report also mentioned that Yuvraj lost his life owing to heart failure.
The medical examination also revealed approximately one to two litres of fluid surrounding the chest and ribs of the victim. Furthermore, both lungs of Yuvraj were fully congested with water, and the nasal passages were completely obstructed by a mixture of mud and liquid.
Additionally, the brain of the techie as per the autopsy showed signs of congestion, while the stomach contained 200 ml of fluid. The heart's chambers were also notably distended with blood.

The shocking details of the autopsy report surfaced amid allegations of negligence from authorities by the deceased’s family members citing delayed rescue efforts and administrative lapses at the accident site.

The cops had had earlier stated that Yuvraj's body was sent for post-mortem examination after being recovered following a multi-hour search operation.

The Chairman of the Fiji National University Council, Semesa Karavaki says the reassignment of FNU to the Prime Minister is like a takeover.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Karavaki says today is a sad day for Fiji's education when the independence of the FNU Council under the FNU Act has been compromised by the so called transition from the Ministry of Education to the Prime Minister 's Office.

Karavaki says the FNU Council meeting that is scheduled for this Thursday has been cancelled by the Prime Minister's Office and the Council's Secretariat staff have been directed by the Vice Chancellor, Unaisi Nabobo-Baba not to communicate or facilitate any communication from the FNU Council.

The FNU Council is appointed by the Minister for Education.

Karavaki says the process of bringing FNU under the PM's Office is a model used by Singapore which worked very well for them.

The FNU Chairman says unfortunately, the way it is implemented by Fiji, is to protect the Vice Chancellor who he alleges has issues at the University.

Karavaki says at the moment and until the FNU Act is amended, the Minister of Education is still the Minister responsible for FNU.

Karavaki says the whole impasse started when he issued a directive on behalf of the FNU Council where the Council is to approve the filling of positions from HOD level and above.

He says this is to address the complaints directed at the Vice Chancellor regarding alleged favouritism and other matters.

Karavaki reveals they as the FNU Council
are also taking steps to address the bestowment of professorship contrary to the FNU Act.

The FNU Council Chair says they are trying to have an audience with the PM's Office and he hopes good sense prevails and a meeting is called by the PM's Office.

Earlier today, fijivillage News reported that the Fiji National University is being reassigned under the Prime Minister's Office Ministerial Portfolio via the Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics after a verbal instruction by the Prime Minister last Tuesday.

Under the FNU Act, the Minister responsible for FNU is the Minister responsible for tertiary education.

In this case, it is the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.

India - A retired railway employee allegedly killed his 35-year-old live-in partner, stuffed her body into a metal trunk and set it on fire in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi earlier this month. To destroy evidence, the accused reportedly dumped the ashes in a river before attempting to move the trunk to his second wife's house.

Investigations revealed that the accused, Ram Singh Parihar, led a double life. Parihar was married twice - his former wife lived in the Sipri Bazaar area, and the second in the City Kotwali area in the same city.

Parihar killed his live-in partner, Preeti, because she was allegedly demanding huge sums of money from him, having already taken lakhs of rupees, according to the initial investigation.

After burning the woman's body, Parihar collected the ash in sacks and threw it into a river to hide the crime. And to dispose of the rest of her remains in the trunk, he plotted to send it to the house of his wife, Geeta.

The crime came to light due to the alertness of a loader driver. On Saturday night, Parihar called his son from his second wife, Nitin. Then he hired a loader to transport the heavy blue trunk to Geeta's house. Nitin and a few of his friends accompanied the trunk. The driver, Jaysingh Pal, became suspicious of the trunk's contents and the behaviour of the men. After unloading the trunk, he called the police control room.

"I was hired for Rs 400 to move some luggage. I suspected something was wrong with the trunk, so I refused at first, but eventually brought it. My suspicion grew stronger once we arrived at the home, and I called the police," said the loader driver.

When the police arrived at the house and forced open the trunk, they were met with a gruesome sight: charred human remains, bone fragments, and coal-like substances.

Ji Seung-ryeol, 41, prides himself on his sense of fashion.
He diligently shares mirror selfies on Instagram, where everyone knows the more likes you get, the cooler you are.
So he was bewildered to find out that men his age have become the subject of ridicule online, mocked for shoehorning their way into styles associated with Gen Z and younger millennials.
AI-generated caricatures of this demographic have gone viral on social media: a middle-aged man decked out in street wear and clutching an iPhone. The kids call them "Young 40s".
The memes have made Ji's beloved Nike Air Jordans and Stüssy T-shirts the butt of jokes—and the source of much indignation.
"I'm just buying and wearing things I've liked for a long time, now that I can afford them," he tells the BBC. "Why is this something to be attacked for?"

Once celebrated as pioneers of taste in the 1990s, the tide of public opinion on 40-year-olds turned after the release of the iPhone 17 last September.
The smartphone, long considered the preserve of the youth, was suddenly recast as a tacky trademark of Young 40s. These are, in the words of Gen Z Jeong Ju-eun, people "trying too hard to look young", who "refuse to accept that time has passed".
The figures seem to reflect this shift. While the majority of young South Koreans still prefer the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy, over the past year Apple's market share fell by 4% among Gen Z consumers and rose 12% for people in their 40s, according to research by Gallup.
Something similar played out a few years back with Geriatric Millennials, born in the early '80s, whose brand of humour—the crying-laughing emoji, finger moustaches and the word "adulting"—was derided as cringey.
Back then, debate over Geriatric Millennials sparked self-deprecating jokes, think pieces and quizzes dictating if you're meant to pile on the ribbing or be subjected to it.
The same trends have taken hold in South Korea with Young 40s.

After author Shobhaa De, singer Shaan and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has reacted to music maestro AR Rahman's recent remarks suggesting a possible "communal" angle behind the slowdown in his work in Bollywood.

What's Happening

Kangana called AR Rahman "prejudiced and hateful" amid the controversial remarks by the singer against Bollywood.
Taking to her Instagram handle, she claimed that Rahman refused to meet her or work on the music for her directorial film, Emergency, because he allegedly considered it a "propaganda film".
"Dear AR Rahman, I face so much prejudice and partiality in the film industry because I support a saffron party, yet I must say I have not come across a man more prejudiced and hateful than you, I desperately wanted to narrate my directorial Emergency to you, forget narration, you even refused to meet me. I was told you don't want to be a part of a propaganda film," wrote Ranaut.
"Ironically, Emergency was called a masterpiece by all critics, even opposition party leaders sent me fan letters appreciating the film for its balanced and compassionate approach, but you are blinded by your hate. I feel sorry for," wrote Kangana Ranaut.
Background
In a recent interview with BBC Network, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman said that work from the Hindi film industry has slowed for him in recent years, attributing this change to "shifting power dynamics" over the last eight years and, possibly, to what he described as "a communal thing.
