It's Seaweek - Kaupapa Moana! To celebrate, we have organized a colouring competition open to all primary and intermediate students. The winning student will receive a copy of the new Joy Cowley Building Bridges: 'Going Fishing' to keep, and the school will receive a set of 8 copies of Story World: 'Kawariki and Tutira/Sea and Shore' for the classroom.

To enter:

Celebrate Chinese New Year, 2024, the Year of the Dragon 🐉 Try this fun activity with your class! Here’s what you need:

📄 A4 sheets of paper in different colours

💚 Scraps of coloured paper for the head (or use white paper to print and colour the pattern)

✂️ Scissors (for younger children, we recommend a teacher or parent to pre-cut the paper)

🧲 Glue stick or tape

🍦 2 x ice-cream sticks or create your own with rolled paper (see step 7)

STEPS:

1️⃣ Draw 4cm wide strips on A4 sheets and cut along the lines.

2️⃣ Glue one end of a strip, about 4cm x 4cm.

3️⃣ Place a strip of another colour at a 90-degree angle, forming an L shape.

4️⃣ Fold the bottom strip over the top, and repeat with the other strip.

5️⃣ Continue folding until the end. Glue a second strip of the same colour and keep folding.

6️⃣ Create the dragon’s head by colouring the provided pattern or cutting parts from different coloured papers. Glue the head to one end.

7️⃣ Tape or glue ice-cream sticks to the body, as shown in the image. For DIY sticks, roll half an A4 sheet tightly, tape the top and bottom.
