World Indigenous Broadcasters Network (WIBN)

The World Indigenous Broadcasters Network (WIBN) is a global alliance of Indigenous broadcasters committed to advancing Indigenous storytelling, languages and cultures. Our founding members include Whakaata Māori (New Zealand), National Indigenous Television -NITV (Australia), Aboriginal Peoples Television Network APTN (Canada), NRK Sápmi (Norway) and

Taiwan Indigenous Television TITV (Taiwan). Established in 2008, WIBN is a not-for-profit organisation that fosters collaboration and strengthens the Indigenous media sector through initiatives such as content sharing, training opportunities, staff exchanges and international networking. As members of WIBN, broadcasters are united by a shared commitment: to preserve, promote and revitalise Indigenous languages, cultures and narratives for generations to come.

The Kanakanavu people became Taiwan’s 15th officially recognized Indigenous group in 2014. With a total population of fewer than 400, efforts to preserve their language have been vital. Eight years ago, a Kanakanavu language immersion kindergarten was established, using picture books, stories, and songs to integrate the Indigenous language into children's daily lives.

The newly produced Kari Snruwan programme by TITV News Dept. focuses on the unique traditional cultures of Taiwan's 16 Indigenous peoples, documenting cultural vocabulary, historical stories, and more. Through face-to-face interactions conducted in Indigenous languages, it offers an intimate look into community life, allowing viewers to experience the program's deep connection with tribal cultures.
