"I'm just trying to help him out because every day he's just so tired and stressful."

While most teenagers are focused on school, many are also helping keep the lights on at home.

One South Auckland school estimates around 40% of its Year 12 and 13 students are working part-time jobs to support their families, with some even leaving school altogether to help pay the bills.

For Sam Saega, 17, that means juggling school and up to 20 hours a week at the supermarket while watching his dad work around the clock to provide for their family of 11.
