Meet Chris, Lead Compositing Artist 👋

Straight from Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦 (and escaping traditional winters!), Chris has joined our Cause and FX team just in time to experience a Kiwi Christmas in the middle of summer ☀️

Chris is most excited about the wave of new shows coming back into production, and exploring how AI tools can elevate creativity across the VFX pipeline, while staying honest to principles like creativity and authenticity.

🎬 Favourite project: Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) – where he helped bring Airbending to life in one of the epic battle scenes.

☕ Go-to order: A flat white (with wafers to dip – essential).

Today is Lā Kūʻokoʻa, or Hawaiian Independence Day, which celebrates the legacy of Hawaiʻi sovereignty, culture, and resilience: the very sovereignty fought for in Chief of War.

We feel immensely proud to have been a part of the journey during the production of Chief of War and do our part to honour such a beautiful, brilliant culture. The team enjoyed bringing a historical drama based on true events to life in an authentic, meaningful way.

Proud to say we put on a pretty great work party, with lots of beer, food and great chats. 🎄

Meet Petr, who joins Cause and FX as Compositing Supervisor!

Originally from Prague 🇨🇿, Petr made the move to New Zealand for the perfect mix of career opportunity and lifestyle. “It just made sense,” he says! And, with a love for travel, adventure, and wide open spaces, Aotearoa ticked every box.

For Petr, VFX is both work and play. He’s a creative at heart who loves experimenting with new tech and tools — especially as the industry evolves faster than ever.

All the way from Treviso, Italy, 🇮🇹 Alessandro joined our Cause and FX thanks to a nudge from a friend.

Alessandro believes we’re in the middle of a monumental evolution in VFX, where AI is reshaping the industry. “We have the responsibility to use it ethically, to empower artists, not replace them.”

Big changes for the NZ film and post-production industry are on the way, and access to the NZ Screen Production Rebate will now be far more accessible for international productions! 👋🎥🇳🇿

Economic Growth Minister Nicola Willis MP today announced adjustments to the rebate that will make New Zealand more attractive to international productions looking for reasons to use New Zealand’s world-class creatives in the post-production space!

International productions could already access up to 20% cash back through New Zealand’s Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) rebate - today’s announcements make it even easier to qualify.

We know for many studios, the challenge lies in managing the local entity and compliance process required to apply.

That’s where Cause and FX steps in. We deliver a fully managed SPV and rebate administration service, so you can focus on creating exceptional work while we manage the paperwork.

The Cause and FX team are gutted to say goodbye to one of our own, Lead Comp Artist Lloyd! ❌

It’s been amazing to watch his journey — joining us as a graduate, working across multiple projects, and growing into a talented Lead Comp Artist who inspires everyone around him.

We’re incredibly grateful for Lloyd’s contributions and wish him all the best in his next adventure across the pond in Australia.

We’ll miss the great vibes he brings to the office, his infectious grin, his brilliant approach to production, and not to mention his insane table tennis skills.
