So great to catch up with this lovely man, Brian Falkner, at last night’s NZCYA book awards in Wellington. Always a moving and heartwarming occasion, celebrating the best children’s and young adult books of the past year. It was stiff competition this year, and while Brian’s brilliant fast-paced pageturner, SPIDER GAMES: In the City of Spies, didn’t win the Wheelers Books Award for Young Adult Fiction, we are still so proud of Brian for making it to the shortlist. The quality of fiction published for tamariki and rangatahi in Aotearoa is right up there with the best in the world, I reckon. Keep encouraging our young people to pick up a book - particularly a local one where they will see so many reflections of themselves.
