I sat down a few times this week to write the next article.

The problem wasn't a lack of ideas. If anything, I had too many.

Work. Purpose. Ambition. Business ownership. What comes next. Why some questions seem to keep returning no matter how old we get.

The more I wrote, the more I realised I wasn't ready to say anything meaningful about any of it. So instead of forcing an article because Sunday arrived, I'm taking a small pause.

For now, I am choosing to sit with the questions a little longer.
Maybe that's something we don't do enough of.

A thought I have been sitting with this week:
Perhaps not all tiredness comes from lack of sleep.
Some comes from carrying responsibility for a very long time.
Work.
Family.
The people who depend on us.
The decisions waiting to be made.
The things that rarely leave our minds completely.
Maybe that is why a good night's sleep doesn't always leave us feeling rested.
I wrote more about this in this week's reflection → theslowstep.substack.com

Most mornings, my alarm is set for just before six. The strange thing is that I often wake up before it.
Not because I am well rested. Because my mind has already started.
Work.
Responsibilities.
Things I need to remember.
People I need to call.
For a long time, I assumed feeling tired meant I needed more sleep.
Lately, I am not so sure.
Some tiredness seems to come from carrying responsibility for a very long time.
This week's reflection is about the kind of tiredness that rest doesn't always fix—and what it means to carry a full life.

For years, I assumed life would feel lighter by 50.
I thought the long hours, pressure, responsibilities and constant carrying would eventually ease. Not disappear -j ust soften.
The other day I realised - I am 54, and in many ways, Ithe fgrind is still on.
The responsibilities changed shape, but they never really left.
It made me wonder how many of us quietly postpone parts of life, thinking:
When things settle down…
This week’s reflection is about waiting for life to become lighter and whether later arrives as often as we think.

It’s not always distraction. Sometimes it’s just habit.

And sometimes… we don’t realise what were missing by never letting a moment stay empty.

I didn’t even think about it. A few seconds of stillness… and I filled it.

It made me realise how uncomfortable we’ve become with doing nothing — even for a moment.

There is a small moment after everything is done.

We don’t stay there very long. Maybe we should.

Productivity is easy to measure.

But how we feel after it - that is harder to understand.

I am starting to think it’s not always about how much we get done…but what we expect it to give us.

I cleared everything on my list this weekend.

The kind of productivity you look forward to - finishing tasks, catching up, finally feeling on top of things. And yet… it didn’t feel the way I thought it would.

It made me wonder how often we tie a feeling to finishing something, expecting clarity, relief, or satisfaction to show up once everything is done.

Sometimes it does. But sometimes, it doesn’t.
