The High Seas Treaty, also called the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement, reached over 60 ratifications on the weekend, a requirement for it to take effect, officially from 17 January 2026.

Sixty nations have ratified the agreement which means new safeguards will be possible for international waters for the first time.

A new housing project in Papakura called Toitoi Living, developed by Penina Trust and Ramwall Group, focuses on creating formidable and accessible homes for the Pacific community.

Penina Trust has partnered with Ramwall Group to provide 16 new homes in Papakura to address the urgent need for affordable housing.
