Alissa & Jack Parisian Wedding by Nicole Pleat Wedding
It’s hard to know where to start with this glorios wedding. It has to be one of our all-time TJ favourites. The styling, florals, fashion and setting are all incredible. And it looks wonderful in print in our latest issue of Together Journal.
“ Fashion is a huge part of who I am, so my outfits were deeply personal. I wanted my ceremony look to be a classic blank canvas that I could style in my own way. Over the past year, while planning our wedding, I also launched my own clothing brand, which became a major source of inspiration. My second look, a lace midi skirt layered with tulle and ruching at the back, was custom-made in London. It was fun, flirty, and deliberately contrasted with my more elegant ceremony skirt, reflecting the shift in mood as the night progressed. “

We Wanted It To Feel Bright, Playful, Colourful, Happy, And Fun — Like A Big Summer Dinner Party Full Of Laughter Rather Than A Wedding. We Don’t Take Ourselves Too Seriously And Both Bristled At The Thought Of A Super-Traditional Wedding That Felt More Elegant And Serious — Beautiful, But Just Not Us. We Wanted To Optimise The Party Vibes, So We Opted For A Less Traditional Order Of Events: We Had Our Cocktail Hour First And Welcomed All Of Our Guests, Then Held A Very Quick Ceremony — Including A Lottery To Select Witnesses — While Everyone Was Seated For Dinner. Irwin’s At The Bok Building Was The Perfect Backdrop, With A Fabulous Golden-Hour Sicilian Dinner And An Incredible, Eclectic, Design-Forward Interior. It Was Perfectly Us, Taking The Traditional Trimmings Of A Wedding That Felt Meaningful While Putting Our Own Funky Spin On Things.

We wanted our wedding to feel like a chic Parisian night out – a casual air of sophistication and that effortlessly cool Parisian energy. Our goal was to have the locations act as the centrepieces of the wedding, so little decor or styling was needed – we chose locations based on their beauty alone and the energy they curate in the space. For that reason, we chose private tables in seasonal restaurants in museums so we could enjoy the art, culture, and the benefit of other people since our wedding was so small. I wanted the events to feel intimate and cool, like a formal night out in the most beautiful city in the world.

Issue 40 Cover Reveal + Preview ✨
The beautiful wedding of Harriet + Chloe in Italy, captured by New Zealand photographer graces our milestone issue.

This edition marks ten years of Together Journal, and with it comes a refreshed look: an updated logo, a redesigned cover featuring two images, new typefaces and evolved page designs - all still with our special TJ feel. Inside, you’ll find new regular styling breakdowns for every wedding, more fashion and interviews, plus planning tools. And we were not quite ready to leave the merlot quite yet. You certainly all let us know just how much you loved it! 🍷Internal team plus external friends cover voting was almost unanimous. So we’ve adopted a slightly new tone, with a touch more red for summer. Chilled merlot, if you will.

A wedding photographer with a dream and an original core team of four - still proudly at the helm today, has grown into a global community with a devoted following. Along the way, there have been humbling and historic moments, including the release of a same-sex wedding cover nationwide in Australia and across many states in the USA, well before marriage equality became law. Giving visibility early to couples who deserved to be seen remains one of our proudest achievements, which makes it especially meaningful that our ten-year celebration issue also features a same-sex cover.

There’s so much more to come this quarter , especially across our digital platforms with the TJ Love Club and TJ Concierge, so stand by and look out for issue 40 on shelves next week. Thank you to every single one of you who has supported us on this journey - it truly means the world.

The florals were the most meaningful design element, woven throughout the weekend as a tribute to Hiram’s late grandmother, whose favorite flower was the calla lily. At the welcome dinner, white calla lilies cascaded in sculptural waves from a bespoke steel installation, illuminated solely by candlelight. During the wedding ceremony, burgundy callas stood out against the weathered stone of the Rose Chapel ruins, offering a quiet, fragrant homage amidst the grandeur of the setting.
