Sunday a week ago we rolled the Honda Fireblade out for the first outing of the season at round 1 of the Auckland Motorcycle Club series.

It was great to shake off a bit of winter rust and get reaccustomed to a full-size bike again. Results were good with a 3rd place and 3x wins, but the real winner was our wheel change tools because due to the weather changing every 5 minutes we had the wheels out more times than I care to remember!

Shout out to Bridgestone Moto NZ for kitting us out with our race tyres, they were flawless all weekend and I'm looking forward to getting more laps under the belt.

Well done to the club and officials for completing the race program on time. There has been a lot of chat about the increase in entry price this year (due to the track hire cost increases), but AMCC really do deliver a good event.

Like many of you, I woke up to the heart breaking news about Shane. “Great guy” just seems like such a severe understatement to describe Shane. He was always so friendly and welcoming whenever I got to see him - usually at Suzuki Series. He always had time to chat and it always surprised me how much he remembered from our previous interactions. He was such a kind, thoughtful, genuine bloke. I remember him even inviting me over to the UK to stay with him and shoot BSB. It’s hard to believe the news is real.

To Hannah and the kids, my heart aches for you and what you must be going through. Life is so unfair.

Hopefully he is up there spinning laps with Damo, together laughing and joking around just like they used to.
