Announcement time!

On the 20th December 2024 M/K Press will be closing its doors for good. This has been a tough year for everyone and unfortunately this business is no longer sustainable. M/K started in 2013 with former founder Abbey Vares along with current founder/owner Jane Maloney (me!). There have been many changes along the way and I am confident we were New Zealand’s longest running Riso Print Shop and the go-to for all Riso lovers throughout the country.

Please get any remaining orders in, especially if you have an outstanding Print or Zine deal as these will no longer be valid after closing. Email me at [email protected] to discuss! I am quite full already so I will be accepting jobs based on priority.

Everything will be sold early in the new year: the Risograph printer, 10 additional drums, inks, masters, paper etc etc. Please get in touch if you are interested otherwise it’ll go up on TradeMe.

Thanks to all who have worked with us over the past 11 years, I am excited for the next journey.

About the Artwork: "As described by Robin Wall Kimmerer, the Windigo is a legendary monster of her Anishinaabe people. When Tyler read Kimmerer's book, Braiding Sweetgrass, he was struck by her story of the Windigo and what it represents to her culture. According to Kimmerer a Windigo is created when an individual's indulgent self-interest compromises the well-being of the greater community. The guilty individual, whose selfishness and greed put everybody at risk would be an outcast - doomed never to enter the spirit world and to suffer 'the eternal pain of need, its essence a hunger that will never be sated'. About the Artwork: Finding time between running Fiksate and being a mother, Jenna Ingram has created a new pastel-vibe Jen Heads print, inspired as usual by nature and our relationship with it, and her latest mural in the Boxed Quarter, CHCH. ***Please note, the fluorescent orange colour does not photograph as bright as it really is!***

About the Artist: Jen Heads is the portraiture series by Christchurch, NZ artist Jenna Ingram which spans 5 years and has many multi-media outputs. With a background in painting from the University of Canterbury, it wasn't until after the earthquakes that her longstanding passion for urban art took physical form in the streets. From her beginning characters through to the more ‘Mother Nature’ stylisations she displays now, her heads are an “ever-evolving commentary on my own identity and the world around me”.

raffle winner (c/o. ) recently received their set of 30 4-colour prints!

To achieve such a vibrant result with minimal tire marks I printed one print at a time, and I did clean the pick-up feed rollers after each print, between the fluro pink and final black layer. Fluro pink is super dusty and likes to come off on everything. Then I used a soft rubber to lightly rub out the remaining fluro pink tire lines which were left on the upper middle yellow section. I’d usually try to print fluro pink last but due to the way this was designed the black was last, and the yellow had to go first which left it susceptible to heaps of marks!
