⚠️ HEAVY RAIN & STRONG WIND WARNINGS REMAIN IN PLACE FOR THE WEEKEND
📈Slight increase in rainfall and stronger winds on the 1pm update.
📍An active front will move up the South Island from Friday afternoon into Saturday, bringing intense heavy rain to the Canterbury Headwaters and Main Divide, along with gale north-westerlies across the high country and foothills.
🌧️ Heavy rain. Up to 250mm may fall by Saturday evening about the Main Divide. Canterbury rivers likely to run high or flood over the weekend.
💨 Strong winds. Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon about the high country. Gusts may exceed 120km/hr at higher elevations, with damaging winds possible across exposed parts of the high country and foothills on Saturday.
🟠Take extra care on alpine routes, including Lewis Pass and Arthur’s Pass, and avoid high-country recreational activities during the warning periods.
