Páistí Post is a unique bi-monthly newsletter created for children of Irish heritage living in New Zealand. The idea for the newsletter emerged from Sara and Ciarán Farmer’s experience living in Ireland, where their children were born. While living outside the village of Forkhill in South Armagh, Ciarán and Sara received a children’s newsletter targeted for Kiwi kids living abroad. While this spar

ked the idea, it was their return to New Zealand that truly brought the vision for an Irish children's newsletter to life. When living in Ireland, Sara wanted her children to understand and connect with her New Zealand culture, so they could have a sense of identity growing up. However, once the family moved back to Christchurch, New Zealand, the focus shifted. Now they had to actively ensure their children had access to Irish culture, heritage, and traditions, leading to the creation of Páistí Post. Páistí Post is supported by the Christchurch Irish Society and the Irish Government’s Emigrant Support Programme, making sure Irish culture, history, art, stories, music, language, and creativity remain accessible to the children of Irish descent in New Zealand. Each issue brings exciting and educational content, from Irish legends and traditional arts to activities and profiles of inspiring Irish figures. It’s designed to help Irish-Kiwi children stay connected to their Irish roots while embracing their Kiwi way of life. A key part of the newsletter’s creative vision and design is thanks to Teo Hyndman, of
nostudio.co.nz, whose artistic talent and graphic design expertise help bring each edition to life with vibrant visuals and engaging layouts. Teo’s contributions are central to making Páistí Post an enjoyable and visually appealing resource for Irish-Kiwi children.

😍Last year, I had the privilege of hearing the incredible experiences of all three of New Zealand's International Rose of Tralee winners. Keely, Maryanne, and Laraine are such wonderful, inspiring, and kind women. Thank you for sharing your stories and allowing me to pass them on to all the Irish/Kiwi kids in Páistí Post! (Although I did make a typo on Laraine’s last name 🤦‍♀️she was incredibly gracious and understanding about it!)

Our second issue of Páistí Post was all about Gráinne Mhaol (Grace O'Malley). Ireland's famous Pirate Queen. We take a look at Westport House, the original site of where Gráinne grew up before she departed for the high seas.
