A little different from our usual morning in the office 🩺

Here’s Philippa at Tūhura Otago Museum, talking doctors through what to expect before sitting their practice exam for one of our lovely clients, the Dunedin Basic Medical Sciences Course Trust.

The doctors have come to Dunedin from across New Zealand and Australia for an intensive three-week course covering anatomy, physiology and pathology as they prepare for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Surgical Sciences Examination – an important step on the pathway towards becoming a surgeon.

The Dunedin Course has a long history of helping doctors prepare for these demanding exams, combining intensive teaching with practice exams that let participants experience the format and process before sitting the real thing.

Cre8ive has worked with the Dunedin Course for more than a decade. Over that time, we've designed and built their website, created participant and exam information, developed their online exam platform in Moodle, and produced other marketing material.

Twice a year, we also help deliver the practice exam – testing the system before it goes live, briefing participants on the day, collating the results and sending them out afterwards.

It’s one of those projects that shows just how varied our work can be – and one of the things we enjoy most about working across such a diverse mix of clients, industries and projects.

No time to get bored!

Most businesses go straight to a designer or developer.

That’s fine—if you already know exactly what you need.

But most don’t.

They haven’t defined the goal.
They haven’t clarified the audience.
They don’t know what the website or campaign is meant to do.

So they end up with something that looks good—
and performs badly.

Strategy isn’t a “nice to have” at the start.
It’s what stops you wasting time and budget on the wrong thing.

Our role is to define the direction first—
then bring in the right people to execute it properly.

We've been diving much deeper into AI lately, looking at how we can use it more effectively and efficiently in our day-to-day work at Cre8ive.

There is a LOT to learn (and it’s changing incredibly quickly), so as I come across simple tips that genuinely make a difference, we will share them.

Here’s an easy one to start with.

💡 One word that can improve your AI prompts: “because”.

When you give AI an instruction, don’t just tell it what you want. Explain why.

For example:

⛔ Weak:
“Don’t use emojis.”

✅ Better:
“Don’t use emojis because this is going into a formal proposal for a corporate client and needs a polished, professional tone.”

Why is the second one better?

The first gives AI one rule: no emojis.

The second gives it context. It now understands you’re trying to produce a formal, professional document, so it can use that information to make better decisions about the rest of the output too.

A few more examples:

✏️ For readability:
“Write short sentences because most of my readers will open this on their phone and skim it.”

📧 For formatting:
“Don’t use tables because I’m pasting this into an email platform where tables don’t display reliably.”

🔎 For accuracy:
“Tell me clearly when you’re uncertain because I may use this information with clients, and I would rather know something needs checking than be given a confident but incorrect answer.”

And on that last one — always fact-check anything important. Telling AI not to make things up doesn’t guarantee it won’t!

One more tip: make your “becauses” permanent.

If you find yourself giving AI the same rules repeatedly, add them to your Custom Instructions or Project Instructions instead.

For example, rather than:
“Use NZ spelling.”

Try:
“Use New Zealand English spelling and conventions by default because our clients and audiences are predominantly New Zealand-based. Avoid US spelling and terminology, as it can make content feel generic or poorly localised.”

Then you don’t need to repeat it every time.

The simple formula:
👉 What you want + why you want it.

A small change to the way you prompt AI that can lead to noticeably better results.

We’re taking the plunge with our new client, Kiwitub NZ Original Portable Hot Tub 🔥

The Original Portable Hot Tub. And a Kiwi story that goes back decades.

Kiwitub is now proudly owned by Allan Whitfield, founder of Allan’s Sheetmetal & Engineering — a long-standing Cre8ive client and part of a family-owned group of New Zealand manufacturing and engineering businesses.

But the connection goes back much further.

For many years, the copper burner at the heart of every Kiwitub was manufactured by Valley Industries in Dunedin. More than a decade ago, Allan’s acquired Valley Industries from Allan’s brother Barry and has continued manufacturing the burners ever since. Long before Kiwitub became part of the Allan’s group, the Whitfield family was already helping build one of its most important components.

Kiwitub itself began in Central Otago, when physiotherapist and inventor Steve August wanted something bigger than the old cast-iron bath he’d been heating over a fire at the family bach in Bannockburn. Inspired by traditional water-heating systems and a bit of classic Kiwi ingenuity, he developed the first prototype of what would become Kiwitub.

Today, more than 2,000 Kiwitubs have been sold across New Zealand and beyond.

No electricity, pumps, plumbing or chemicals. Just fresh water or seawater, LPG or firewood, and somewhere worth soaking.

From a homemade solution at a Central Otago bach to The Original Portable Hot Tub — it’s a great New Zealand story, and we’re excited to be helping with its next chapter.

Visuals aren’t optional. They significantly increase what people remember.
People remember 10% of text after 72 hours.
Add visuals and recall jumps to 65%.

Same message.
Completely different outcome.

If people don’t know you exist, they can’t choose you.

Marketing isn't about making the most noise. It's about making sure the right people hear, see, and remember your brand.

Whether it's your website, social media, advertising, or email marketing, every touchpoint plays a role in helping your business get noticed. 🙌

If you’re running ads on Meta, there’s a step most businesses don’t even know exists.

👉 It’s called Business Verification.

And skipping it doesn’t cause problems- until something goes wrong.

🔹 What it is: Business Verification is how Meta confirms you actually own your business and its assets.

Not the person running ads.
The business itself.

🔹 Why it matters
Without it:
• You have weaker proof of ownership
• Recovery options are more limited
• Disputes take longer (or go nowhere)
• Your account has less trust behind it

Everything can run fine… until it doesn’t.

🔹 Where people get confused
They think:
“As long as the person running ads is verified, we’re fine”

Not quite.

• Individual verification = who is using the account
• Business verification = who owns it

Meta cares more about ownership when issues happen.

🔹 The risk
If:
• Your business isn’t verified
• Ads rely on one person’s profile

And that person gets restricted, hacked, or disabled…

You’re left trying to prove something you never set up properly.

👉 Blunt reality:
If Meta can’t clearly see you as the owner, you’re in a weak position when you need help most.

Would you upload your customer database to a public website?

Probably not.

Yet many people are unknowingly pasting customer information, staff details, financial data, contracts, meeting notes, and confidential documents into AI tools without considering the privacy implications.

AI can save enormous amounts of time, but it also comes with responsibilities.

Before you share information with any AI tool, ask yourself:
• Does this identify a person?
• Do I have permission to use this information?
• Does it contain confidential, commercially sensitive, or financial data?
• Would I be comfortable if this information was accessed by someone else?

As AI becomes part of everyday business, good governance matters just as much as good prompting.

At Cre8ive, we're passionate about helping businesses use AI strategically, responsibly, and with privacy front of mind.
