⚠️ STRONG WIND UPDATE⚠️

Due to today’s gale-force winds:
💨 The Green Island Landfill is now closed for the day.
💨 The Dunedin Botanic Garden is closed for the rest of today due to the increased risk of tree and branch falls.
💨 All kerbside collections are suspended until tomorrow, and our contractor will only collect rubbish/waste bins from areas not yet covered today.
💨 Recyclables will be collected on affected residents’ next scheduled service.

Driving may be hazardous, and we urge caution if travelling. There are a number of reports of fallen trees and branches across the city. We are clearing roads when it's safe to do so. Where it's not safe to clear roads, they are being closed.

Our website has the latest information on road conditions: www.dunedin.govt.nz/road-conditions

We’re also asking everyone to conserve water as power outages have affected pump stations across the city. While there is no immediate impact, and generators are being deployed, we’re taking a precautionary approach while the weather event continues.

Keep an eye on weather forecasts and check for updates as further warnings may be issued: https://www.metservice.com/

🚛🚛We're excited to welcome Phil Rogers back to the OAR FM airwaves!

Tune in Wednesdays at 1:30pm over the next six weeks to hear excerpts from Phil's 2013 book, Keep On Trucking, along with some of his favourite music.

Phil has not let his non-verbal condition get in the way of hosting his own show. Cerebral palsy, caused by brain damage from a childhood illness, affected his motor functioning and took away his ability to speak.

A growing desire to advance the interests of people who had been prevented from achieving what they wished with their lives because of financial, mobility or communication barriers led Phil to enroll for study at Dunedin College of Education, where he earned a National Certificate in Human Services.

In 2005, a support worker suggested he might like to have his own music-based radio show, using a Liberator communication aid to record passages of text to play when needed.

“Once I got the idea of a radio show of my own in my head there was no getting out of it, and there was only one topic for the theme of it, considering my lifelong interest in trucks and the truckers who drive them,” said Phil.

For several years, Phil hosted 'Phil's Trucking Show' before taking a break. Now he's back, with improved communication technology and a passion to share his story.

You can find the podcasts from:
OAR FM Website: https://oar.org.nz/shows/keep-on-trucking/
Also on Apple Podcasts and other podcast providers.

A huge thank you to Community Care Trust for supporting this series.
