In 2020 the South Link Education Trust purchased and transferred its head office to 5 Melville Street, Dunedin. Natural History had completely renovated the building and during this renovation built a recording studio and three mixing/editing suites. As a charitable trust we have decided to offer the studios as a free community resource. This offer is to those both in Dunedin and the wider Otago r
egion. The Trust believes that music, music education, assisting aspiring musicians, can and does have a profound and positive impact on both individual health and community wellbeing and prosperity. Further to supporting Dunedin’s and the wider Otago/Southland musical community, the facility will offer training and guidance to under-privileged youth seeking to empower and upskill themselves in an increasingly technological world. Our aim is to offer a wide range of informal courses including audio engineering and production, music creation and composition, and entry-level musical instrument tutoring and mentoring. We can also provide access to schools who need additional resources and space to work in as well as offering after school programs. As this project progresses, we can see this project evolving through partnerships with like-minded community groups such as Otago Access Radio and assisting the NZ Music Commission to educate young people and musicians of all ages. Our organization is keen to undertake a pivotal role in providing a creative outlet for local artists and aspiring musicians, contributing to the cultural vibrancy of our community. The studio is a community resource we offer to the Dunedin public for no charge.
