This little photo essay came from a feature for Box of Light that saw artist and ocean conservationist Virginia Watson meet author and shipwreck expert Bruce Collins – over lunch at Emerson's Taproom, of course. Virginia's incredible artworks depict stories of historical waka and shipwrecks connected to Te Wai Pounamu and more specifically, Otago, Southland, and the Auckland Islands. Virginia has researched the Othello, Ventnor, Tararua, Grafton, Waikare, Mānuka, Tyrone, Pride of the Yarra and the Maori Girl so far with a few others in her sights. She hopes to finish up with 10-12 shipwrecks in the body of work.

Vallkree Charm: These photographs are from an editorial shoot for New Zealand Surf Journal featuring the very cool Vallkree Mech 24, and the Moondog, electric beach bikes. Portrait Session: This was a really fun portrait session with Yisia. This was actually her first professional photo shoot, but you wouldn't have known that. She was instantly comfortable and relaxed. We chose this cool outdoor beach location so we could use natural light and the natural contrasts of the rock formations found here. Yisia did her own make-up and styling for the shoot.
