Sometimes the thing standing between us and what we want is not the fence. It is remembering the last zap.

This morning from the house I could see the little Royals hadn't eaten all their silage. Strange, because normally they're absolute pigs.

When I got up there, I discovered they'd pushed the bale feeder hard against the electric fence.

The silage was available… technically.

But the barrier to getting it was bigger than their desire for it.

Made me think how often we do exactly the same thing.

Often the thing we want is right in front of us....
But one bad experience, one fear, one uncomfortable moment, and we stop reaching for it.

Sometimes the barrier is real.

Sometimes it just feels real.

But one zap, one fear, one bad experience and suddenly we convince ourselves the fence is bigger than it really is.

Think about 'Feeling the fear and doing it anyway...unless you are Gina' cause she just does crazy stuff all the time...no regrets!

There’s one thing about getting my cow fix that changes everything.

Five minutes with the girls and I feel like a new person.

THAT was my problem.

When my brain gets too busy and ideas start ricocheting off the walls, everything turns to p**p.

Being outside brings me mental clarity.

Being with the cows reminds me how lucky I am to be here. It reminds me that not everything needs solving today.

Turns out all I needed was a handful of cows, some vitamin D, some space, and lungs full of fresh air.

So good for the soul.

I recharge my body battery twice a day... but this hick country chick still needs to recharge her soul the old fashioned way.

Recovery from this second operation has cramped my style more than I expected.

Definitely not as much physically as the first op, but enough that it’s hit me harder in the motivation and moving forward department than I thought it would.

Funny how we don’t really take into account how much our mindset shifts when life changes.

I’m finding it really hard to be the “Miss Positive” when it’s bleak outside and all I want to do is curl up in front of the fire with a book.

Maybe I need to, for want of a better metaphor, sharpen my axe before I start chopping wood again.

Because right now, trying to push through when I’m tired, sore, and really frustrated isn’t helping anyone, least of all me.

I am so hanging out to ride my bike again. Although definitely not one of Gina’s missions! W**d my garden. Play in the tunnel house. Go for a drive. Do all the normal things that right now are way of reach.

But to get there, I need to take the time to rest, do what appear to be menial physio exercises, OD on the PEMF machines, and give my body time to fully heal so I can once again get back to living life at breakneck speed. I am so not used to being a stationary being. Bring it on!

Well... once again the crutches have jumped off and ended up lying somewhere in the grass. It’s becoming a daily occurrence!!!
I’m starting to wonder how many crutches you could grow per hectare and what the profit margin would actually be.
Then the questions start forming...
Where do you get the seeds?
What fertiliser do they require?
How long’s the growing season?
Can they cope with frosts and droughts?
How are they harvested?
Will it be more profitable than growing these beautiful cows?
So many questions
On some days it would be a heap easier...
Nowhere near as enjoyable though

A quick trip down to the local garage to get fuel for the motorbike somehow turned into a full blown mission.

My ute had a flat tyre.

Ironically, the minute we started dealing with it, a Firestone truck just happened to turn up. He tried very hard to ignore us on the way into the shop to grab his pie and drink... but we were completely unavoidable on his return!!!

If I wasn't me, I could have sat back on my crutches and watched the whole event unfold like a sensible person...

But, me being me, I roll my sleeves up, to get the job done. Lying on the forecourt of the local servo trying to work out how the spare actually comes off the ute (it's been a while since I had a flat) seems like a perfectly reasonable Helen thing to do… crutches were within reach and I was non weight bearing, so all was good.

And before anyone asks... no, I wasn't driving. I had a chauffeur.

Probably also wasn't supposed to be crawling around helping with tyres yet either, but a girl has gotta do what a girl has gotta do …

The baking delivered today to the neighbour who also helped out was much appreciated.

I've been snapped shopping online...but I really needed it!

One of the things I am absolutely challenged with is organisation.

A couple of nights ago a friend was helping me sort some stuff online and she said,
“Do you even know how you just logged into that?”

Honestly… nope.

My entire strategy up until now has basically been:
the passwords magically live inside my computer somewhere and hopefully I will be able to log into everything. Great when I'm home on my pc...not so flash when I am away on my laptop...

When you work online there are approximately 74 million passwords.

Everything needs:
a password,
a backup password,
a code sent to your phone,
a special character,
and they recommend none be the same.
Just so demanding!

Its actually a miracle I get into anything...twice!

So she suggested I buy one of these little puppies to organise my life.

And look at it.

It is so pretty.

Out with the old in with the new, thanks KMart.

Rock on new organised Helen.

At this rate I’m not even going to recognise myself.

But you watch me loose the dammed book!

Massive accomplishment today…

I had a shower all by myself... and before you asked I got my foot condom on and off on my own!

Might not sound like much to some people, but when you’ve had to rely on help for basic stuff, those little wins are actually huge.

It feels like the journey back to my independence might be a whole lot faster than I first thought.

I think life is partly about knowing when you need a hand up and accepting help gracefully…

But also recognising the moment you can stand there and go:
“Yeah nah… I can do this all by my own self now.”

And sooo looking forward to unleashing all my awesomeness back out into the big wide world again soon.

I so couldn't have achieved my mission without this bad boy ...

Well, the plate is out. Operation done.
It was a really, really long day, but we got there.

I did try to get my metal back. Apparently that's not a thing anymore. Something about it being a health hazard and the amount of work it takes to clean all the tissue off it. Bit of a bummer honestly, I was quite looking forward to having it. But I do have a photo, and I have to say, those screws were not small.

Neither were the plates. So that's pretty cool in a slightly gross way.
I am genuinely so grateful for the technology that makes all of this possible. The fact that you can put metal in a human body, hold everything together while it heals, and then just take it back out again.

And I am even more grateful that my Penny is back in my life on a regular basis. I had completely forgotten how good her cooking is. That alone might be worth the surgery!

What I had also forgotten is how slow life gets on two crutches. How much effort absolutely everything takes. And honestly… how far away my toilet is.

So here we go again. Another lesson in patience. Another reminder to trust the process and let the body do what it knows how to do.

Heal fast, body. I've got things to do…places to go!
