Originally released on CD & cassette tape back in 1996, The Bilge Festival debut album The Shrimp Boats is now available through streaming platforms. Earlier band reviews described them on the good side of whacky rock but their only full length release is a collection of more straight-ahead rock n roll with a twist and an old favorite of Taiki Waititi (apparently).

Recently signed songwriter Paul Cathro grew up in Dunedin where he was involved in bands such as Biff Merchants & Alizarin Lizard before starting Ha the Unclear with his brother Michael. His new solo record Catapult is out on June 13th through new imprint – Black Sheep. Paul has set up a crowd funding campaign through Holiday Records to manufacture his new album on vinyl. This will be a limited run and can be ordered below. The crowd funding campaign closes this Friday May 23rd so get in quick !

Post punk outfit, Swallow The Rat have recently joined the Black Eye roster with a new EP due out on May 23 and title track - Face Unpopular doing the rounds on the student radio network. They tour New Zealand this May / June and then head to Europe in September for a run of shows. We are excited to be working with them.

We are thrilled to announce that Black Eye has picked up a boutique publishing catalogue, Imperial, and merged with Black Eye. This combines a roster of local current contemporary songwriters with some older catalogue, including the likes of songwriter, South Pacific legend & NZ Music Hall Of Fame inductee Bill Sevesi, 70's acid rock band Ticket & 90’s grunge rockers Semi Lemon Kola. We have also launched a new website https://www.black-eye-music.com and will announce some new signings shortly. Roll on 2025.

Black Eye represents a select roster of independent, contemporary songwriters Identifying emerging talent, seeking out up-and-coming artists.

The new album - The Hollow Husk Of Feeling from power pop quartet Best Bets is out today through local indie label Melted Ice Cream. They recently performed live on Radio New Zealand which you can check out below. The band heads out for a couple of release shows next week.
